Amtel intros cross-platform fingerprint flash drive
We've seen a few
biometric USB flash drives, but
most of them have relied on platform-specific drivers, making them difficult to use on different kinds of machines —
which limits their use for travelers who don't know exactly what kind of box will be waiting for them at the end of
their journey. Amtel's Bio flash drive attempts to address that challenge by combining its own fingerprint reader with
FingerGear's Bio USB software, which can run on Windows, Mac and Linux systems. The drive also includes an LCD readout,
can store multiple user profiles, and even generate single-use passwords to keep current sessions secure without
requiring additional finger-swipes.

The company name is Atmel, not Amtel (a common mistake).

Amtel would be a cool name. AMD/Intel.

Next step: biometric readers built into the card where all the software runs off the card itself.

Trejkaz you just answered my question, I thought this was that, but no. Well your right, I'd expect something built in at the Vista OS level anyway so here's hoping.

I've been using a biometric flash drive that doesn't need any drivers for a couple of years now. It's the only way I could find to easily move my passwords around while traveling around to cybercafes, using Windows or Macs. Works well even after a lot of banging around....
