First details about the Skype WiFi phone
They're not quite ready to show us what it actually looks like or when it might be available (which may or may not
be a bad sign), but earlier today
Skype revealed a few details about
the new WiFi phone that CEO Niklas Zennstrom hinted at a few
months ago. There are already several different WiFi phones out there (we reviewed the
UTStarcom F1000, aka Vonage's WiFi phone, back in April),
but this one'll be fully-integrated with Skype's VoIP service, and when you power up the phone you'll be asked to enter
your user Skype Name and password, which will then pull up your full contact list. No word on whether or not the phone
works with SkypeOut and SkypeIn, but if they know what's good for them they'll figure it out.

Looking forward to this.
Curious to see how they will address emergency number features.

Be more interesting to see how they handle their customer base going to prison for using an open WiFi connection. :)

... where "fully-integrated" means "permanently locked in."

I've tried running VOIP clients on my HP 4150 PPC but find the voice quality is a little choppy. In contrast, I find that using stand-alone wifi voip handsets provide better quality.
