What, so you have to lift up the left finger before you can click the right? Excuse me if that isnt the intuitive interface blahblahblah etc etc. This mouse seems like it could do with a couple of improvements, im not sure how squeezing the mouse is any nicer/easier than the buttons on the mx700 i have..
Has this mouse been designed around form?
Reading these reviews, it seems that Apple seriously sacrificed usability for design. Sad. I'll stick with my mouse that actually has two separate buttons instead of having to rewire my brain so that I only have one finger on the mouse at a time.
Why does apple keep doing this, first it was a one button design now this? Why can't they make a mouse that doesn't accpt any input whatsoever. Is that too much to ask for?
I'm a pretty big Apple fanboy, but I'll readily admit that Apple can't seem to make a proper mouse worth a damn (hockey puck anyone?).
This thing seems like it's got cool tricks, but WTF: lifting the left finger to click the right button? a "squeeze" button?
Come on Apple! Give me a reason to replace the Microsoft mice in front of my Macs!
Did Barb write "Aight"? lol waddup yo? What's the dilly? Fashizzle? Who ate my schnitzel?
I've never seen a mouse with a clitoris before. Looks like it would be good digital stimulation practice for most men.
"White Girl Suicide Bomber"...Weird.

From the first link:
"Then I checked out the directions, which told me to put the CD in the drive after plugging the mouse in, so I did the swap and popped in the CD. (I had to fight against years of Windows experience there, usually you install the software *before* plugging your new device in)."
Is this guy serious? Does he install drivers first and then puts him graphics card into the PC?
Design? Who cares! The problem is that this thing is not wireless.
Varg,
Mac people won't/can't get their hands dirty installing a card, He's talking about USB peripherals
I like it, I just wish PC people would come up with these cool ideas like the scrollie ball before the Apple people do... :P
Why can't Apple make a cordless mouse???
first intel inside
now mouse with 2 buttons
are they still thinking different?
why can't it just have a little track pad in the middle? like the wheel but a track pad you can tap or scroll with. I mean come on alread!
Man, you guys are brutal.
First off, nobody is forcing you to replace your ________ mouse. Secondly, some people will like the new "Mighty Mouse" and some people will not. So what.
I am perfectly happy with the one button, so I won't be getting this. I'm reading the complaints about having to lift your left finger when right-clicking; whenever I right click, my left finger naturally lifts up so that wouldn't be a problem for me.
Fishes,
narco.
I guess they didn't come out wth a cordless version is because they want to "test drive" the mouse and see the popular reaction before moving further along with it. I guess this is sorta like the "beta" version of the mouse.
Here is a raw review that isn't from a
Fanboy or people who bought the thing...
You just have to go to the APPLE Store

another over-priced piece of crap from apple... but i'm sure all you designers and other "artsy" fem-men will be rushing to the cute white apple store to snatch it up because it's a $15 device that apple charges $50 for... enjoy... and enjoy the cord!

I agree, way overpriced... And it just has the SAME functionality of a 15$ mouse. I can't believe people are paying for this... Hell, somebody explain to me why do they have to emulate mechanical movements with sound when you can have actual mechanical movements with ANY other mouse.
It's just too much hassle (that keeps the price up) for something we're already doing.

OMG APPLE SUX!!1!!1
God if you hate a company so much shut the fuck up and don't buy thier shit.
You people realize you are worse than the fanboys you post about.
Apple's future plans are rumored to involve re-inventing the wheel. They will be making it square, but a complex suspension and noise suppression system will help alleviate the bumps and crunching noises. The "Mega Wheel" is said to be about double the price of conventional round wheels.
#14 - apple does make a wireless bluetooth mouse. it's been out for quite a while.
Amen to #20! LOL@Fem-Men
I love my regular wireless mouse that cost $15 and does everything I need it to do. Holla!
Pffff, at least make a wireless one. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, I can't stand the mess of cables on my desk at work.
Oh that's right, Apple will release that as a second generation Mighty Mouse once all the Mac peeps buy this one.
I see a lot of complaining about the functionality of the mouse simply becuase it's not engineered in a traditional style. Had Apple done that, all the posts on here would have been about people complaining that it's just like every other mouse out there. As for the primary two buttons, because this is a four button mouse, not two, the mouse pivots on the vertical plain slightly to the left or to the right. This allows for a left or right click even though you can visually see two separate buttons. Apple did not provide that functionality out of the box because most mac users are used to the one button mouse. They simply programmed the two front buttons to be the "left" click. With the CD that comes with the mouse, it's easy to set the buttons up to do what you want them to do and it's easy to use. Odds are, the people posting on this thread are commenting on something they've not yet used. The mouse works great and IS intuitive to use. Buttons three and four are a nice addition. The fifty bucks I spent on it didn't mean anything to me. It's basically the equivalent of buying two DVD's. It's certainly not killing me to purchase it.
#13, check out your local Microcenter or go here: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0169276 to see that Compaq has had this scroll wheel for a while now. It's not new tech and it was out for Windows PCs before...I'm still considering buying the regular shiny bluetooth Apple mouse though instead.
Barf. The world of Macintosh has finally crested.
"Is this guy serious? Does he install drivers first and then puts him graphics card into the PC?"
Dude, FWIW, that's pretty much best practice for PC hardware, and recommended by every single hardware manufacturer whose product requires drivers.
If Microsoft had of designed or built it they would have a button dedicated to Ctrl+Alt+Del and would have called it "Danger Mouse".
I'm sure there are people still sucking Steve Jobs' feces by buying this overpriced, life-like model of a sperm.

Ooh, wow, that's a compelling argument right there. Guys, I'm telling you, if you buy this mouse, you will be a Fem-Man. Better watch out.
I second Pancake (#20) - Apple haters are even more annoying than the "Apple fanboys" they vow to ridicule. If you think Apple sucks, than just shut the hell up and don't buy their crap. You don't need to use every Apple news story to broadcast how you think every Mac user is a fem-man designer.
Will some users be honestly satisfied with the Mighty Mouse? Yes. Will others have valid reasons for disliking it? Also yes. Just like every other product on the face of the planet, the Mighty Mouse is not for everybody, so let people use the freakin' mouse and form their own conclusions.
Sorry, misquoted Pancake as #20. He's #22.
#12 (Spyvie) said "Mac people won't/can't get their hands dirty installing a card"
A B.S. sweeping generalization.
I've installed, replaced, or upgraded all sorts of things in my Macs over the years: optical drives, hard drives, RAM, floppy drives, NuBus adapters, FPU chips, mobo batteries, video cards, audio and video I/O PCI boards, a GPIB board, internal modems, a PowerBook screen, iBook video inverter, and even a few motherboards. And no, I'm not and never have been a Mac repair technician. I just like fixing or upgrading my stuff by myself.
I always laugh at the ignorance of PC fanboys who say the Mac is not upgradable. They are, just not as much as PCs.
I think my IQ lowered a few points after reading these comments.

It seems that many of you lack any proper knowledge on Appla and PC history. Apple invents product-Microsoft steals product-Apple makes product better (perhps more intuitive). XEROX-PARC and Apple invented the mouse that Bill stole, so if it tooke them 21 years to build a better one than any of the other companies and you are pissed that it might not suit every computing need you may have or brush your teeth for you, relax and remember that Apple is the reason you are not entering text prompts for computer commands, have a computer in your home, and have the ability to use a mouse period.
As for some of the other comments: Apple perfected both the design and functionality of that crappy Compaq mouse linked to above (for example it has 360 degree scrolling touch sensitive buttons force sensitive buttons and a design that doesnt make you want puke. In addition, there is no need to be hostile because one reader acknowledges the fact that Apple computers are inherently less easy to upgrade. THEY ARE MADE THAT WAY. Short of HD and RAM upgrades Steve doesn;t want your hands in there. This is why Apple supports such a limited offering of hardware additions. If you have done major upgrades to you then you are in the minority. Congratulations and get back to your exciting life of coding.
I reiterate what some of the more enlightened commentors have said: if you don't like the mouse shut up and use your amazing $15 dollar mouse to navigate to a new page. You may have trouble believing it but this site is meant to be a forum about the product not general Apple gripes. Shut up unless you have something to say that is pertinent to the topic and not general garbage. I would quote specific comments here but you know who you ar eif you hate "fanboys," love Windows because it works (but not really), and hate Steve Jobs (Even though ou owe him every second of the sad time you spend on the internet.
the mouse works like the long transparent optical one. Where you dont 'click' a button, rather you depress the whole body of the mouse.
This new mouse is basically the same as this. Same dimensions etc. The way the second button is implemented is by having the button hinge also down the middle. this means that you depress the body of the mouse on the side you are clicking and rather than a separate 'button', the body more or less leans forward left or forward right.
Personally i think id find the scroll ball annoying to use. A. for its small size i.e. having to repeatedly brush my finger on it more often to go scroll the same amount. and B. because my finger would not tend to brush it straight back so i'd find myself scrolling left and right the whole time. If i disabled the left/right scroll, then it would kinda defeat the purpose of it being a ball.
Anyway, im still waiting on more reviews before i cast my verdict.
I found this "Mighty Mouse © Viacom International Inc. All Rights Reserved." at the bottom of its product site. Why Apple isn't own the rights? Sound weired to see other company trade mark in Apple.com
The Mighty Mouse name has and still is being ussed by Apple for something else.
www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/mightymouse.html
Man what a stupid design.
Rather than just add another mechanical switch, they add touch sensors to determine which finger is pressing the single switch. Wow.
Only Apple could come up with a mouse that goes to China to get next door.
Y'know. I've been doing some testing and on my two button mouse my left finger **naturally** lifts up when I click the right button. I'm sure it does for many others too.
What really annoys me are all these people on here and in other posts quite quick to slag it off and only a handful of people have used it for a day. Everyone else is up in arms about it.
TRY IT BEFORE SLAGGING IT OFF PEOPLE!! If, after living and using it for a week you don't like it then fine but quit being so narrow minded and at least use it... and I mean use it - don't go in a store, play with it for 2 minutes and then dismiss it. Many things take time to grow. Graphics tablets are a bitch to begin with but I know many graphic artists that won't even touch a mouse anymore after using a tablet and getting used to it.
post #41 your link refers to a third party program that is just part of the applications listing. It isn't owned, recommended, or used by apple. I would venture to say, by lack of obvious credit, that this software never actually registered the mighty mouse name. Although, I might have missed it.

Just wanted to point out that the link you provided is not an Apple Product. It's a listing for a Third-Party Product by Unsanity.
Um, FYI to all who say that you need to lift fingers, nope. I read some posts by people who used it - it has sensors to determine where the most pressure is (right or left finger) and only one button. No tilt button, no finger-lifting. The Apple page on the mouse even describes this in detail. Supposedly people who used it said it was simple and intuitive.
Don't have one, don't plan on buying one (my Kensington 5 button mouse does way more, but the scroll ball is intriguing).
And I could care less about the cord, my computer desk is a mess anyways.
And as far as the fem-boy designer comment, as an illustrator/designer (and Mac fan), I still drink cheap beer, skip showers, burp in public (and yet do clean, professional work). What is so manly about using Windows (or Linux, Unix, etc.) anyways? Oops, I think I just fed a troll…
I like it. I will buy one and see how it feels.
To all the uncle and anti-fanboys, relax it is just a mouse.
