Hands-on with the Samsung YP-T8
Meant to post this up yesterday along with the YP-U1, but the other day we also got a chance to play around with the YP-T8, Samsung's new flash-based player that can handle both audio and video. You probably have a pretty good idea by now whether you'll ever actually want to watch video on a 160 x 128 pixel, 1.8-inch display, but the YP-T8 has some good things going for it: it's way smaller and lighter than we thought it was gonna be, its 1.8-inch LCD screen is nice and bright (though it could have been a little crisper), and it has a 20 hour battery life (at least for music), an integrated FM radio, USB host capability, and support for playback of MPEG4 video files and MP3, WMA, and OGG audio files.

hey that's a cool mp3 phone I'd buy...!
wait...it is NOT.
Let's Just Hope Jamster comes out for this. I want that frog penis on my Mp3 Player. I already bought a Gigabeat for it.
Seriously.....I'm tired of this "almost convergance" crap. How hard is it to slap a little mobile phone action inside that case.Granted it would be a bit thicker and more $....but I bet more peeps would consider it.
Dude, it's not a phone... it's just an MP3 player...
Though i can see why you thought it was a phone.
oh wut a dummy i am, i thought that it was a slider phone, well that clears things up. im like i wonder what network it operates on??!!?
i just like how these devices say something like "digital audio player".
i dont know why my cellphone doesnt say "mobile voice and also text and soon video communication device" on it.
Ok, but something flash-based that size with no voice record or memory expansion just means they're not trying.
The mobile phone verseion of that is the Audiovox 5600 - 2.2" screen and it will play every video under the sun, higher res too.
gt- maybe it's so people won't think it's a cell phone?
I am intrigued by the picture on the cell phone. It appears to be a guy in a shirt, tie and slacks sitting in a pool doing biceps curls with his left arm and dunking a small child with his right arm. Anybody see that?
Looks like a closed Samsung E7*0.
Ok, I've been waiting for a price on this thing before I bought it...engadget has shown the yp-t8 about 3 times, and never mentioned a price. Anyone know anything?
Device aside, is there any way to just photograph a device next to something to get an idea of the size? Like a pack of gum, pack of cigarettes, deck of cards, altoids tin, whatever. Something that is of a uniform size and people are familiar with.
I know thats why you picture it in a hand... the problem is that people's hands vary in size and we have no idea how big or small that hand is.
#6, It has voice-recording. #11, for pricing and availability:

Wow... $200 for a 512mb player is awfully steep. $300 for 2gig.. ouch. Makes the iPod look like an amazing value.
are they watching "swimfan" on that phone?
The only place I've seen you can get it right now is at www.circuitcity.com. They've only got the 1GB version, though.
i just ordered this beast yesterday from circuit city. from all the lit ,this just might be the one. it is way loaded with features. and yes the boy is being drowned by his dad.
I got one of these from Circuit City yesterday for my wife (replacing her iFP-890) - so far it seems great! Having to wrap the video in their .svi container seemed annoying to me at first but now I think "any format" + "2 clicks" = "perfect for device playback" is the bees-knees.
The yp-t8 is the best! Ive got one! unlike the ipod it has longer battrie life, FM raido, voice and raido recording, 30 station memory, cooler and more artistic graphics, missions to the more colorfull games, it plays many more kinds of formats, cooler main screen with music in motion bar graphs, and its much more lighter and alot less fragel. Its LCD bright screen is easy to see and skrach resistant. its sound is great. For the money around $150, its well worth It.
I keep getting this f'n Direct X problem when I try to convert my mp4 I use on my Sony PSP, since they won't play on it as is!
