AOL snaps up Wildseed

A company in search of a mobile strategy (they bought Xdrive last week and introduced mobile search a couple of weeks ago), AOL just scooped up Wildseed, a long-struggling maker of swappable Smart Skins for handsets that never got much love from the carriers (no major US carrier ever offered the phones that were compatible with the skins). The target demo for Wildseed may have been a little cloyingly Gen Y, but the basic idea behind it, namely that you could pop a new skin on your phone that would instantly load up new wallpapers, apps, games, and ringtones, actually wasn't so bad. Not that it matters, since it seems doubtful that AOL'll keep the Smart Skin biz going, sounds more like they're mainly after Wildseed for its software.

Interesting. I interviewed with WildSeed several years ago. The only cool thing I can say is that H.R. Giger made a skin for the phone:

The latest Sony Ericsson GSM cellular phone W800i unlocked is available in USA at Romeohifi.com. When you go to their site, check out the gsm world phone section. W800 is one of the best cell phone to be released this year. I love it.
