Cyber Defense Systems' low-cost surveillance drone
We officially don't condone using these for remotely stalking your latest crush, but a company called Cyber Defense Systems is trying to commercialize a line of low-cost battery-powered aerial surveillance drones similar to the unmanned aerial vehicles the US military currently uses in Iraq and Afghanistan that are simple enough to be operated by anyone who knows their way around a joystick (which pretty much equals 100% of our readership). They're aiming these primarily at law enforcement (a police force in Maryland already used one of the company's CyberBug UAVs to keep tabs on a recent "community event"), but they're also hoping that there'll be plenty of businesses (like power plants, contractors, TV stations, etc.) that'll want to use these, too.

no situps were threatened in the creation of this product....
It's all about the profile. Not of the product but the dude anchoring it to the planet.
actually i the stand out part of the article is the word "low-cost" and "US military" in the same sentence...
Wait which one is the drone, Belly McGut or the model airplane?
"We officially don’t condone using these for remotely stalking your latest crush"
It would only be of limited use for that anyway.
Basically just for finding out where they live. After that you'd want something more like a small helium filled device that will be more silent and can hover outside of windows and such...
And if you fill it with hydrogen it will be easier to effect a self destruct should it become necessary...
Hey wait a sec.. I'm in Maryland, what was this "community event" (in quotes, no less!) they were spying on? Did a Girls Gone Wild event happen under my nose?
I'm gonna say the model airplane... good luck getting the other guy to fly
this can be say...cool..heh
Fucking hell, is that guy pregnant with Britney's twin mutant children??
Fat bastard epitomizes the obesity problem. Starving Africans in Niger have it so good compared to this guy.
[fat guy in picture] "I'm huntin babys to get in my belly!"
He kinda looks like Mike Starr, "How ya doin?"
"Hey YOU, Whattya lookin' at?"

Hmmm
Can anyone say... shotgun?
"Can anyone say... shotgun?"
I was about to say - looks like some good target practice to me!
A shotgun doesn't have the range or accuracy, though. A Colt .45 would do nicely.
The shotgun would work better at a range of five feet, though. ;)
And I wouldn't put too much weight on their saying that anyone that can work a joystick can fly it. If it's anything like flying model airplanes, it's a bit more than joystick operation.
I'd be interested, though. There's this gir---erhm, german... spy.. party.. thing down the street that could use some observing.
I know how they designed this drone. The guy in the pic was watching TV in bed one night when his beer belly was blocking the TV. So he put a couple o' pillows to prop his head up a bit and lo and behold he noticed the aerodynamic curves of his belly. The rest is history my friends. I know you're my friends because I said so.
This reminds me of the mini Predator:

And those Dragonfly things:

Not unmanned, but they are easily fitted with wireless cams and I heard somewhere that they were working on a bigger Predator which could be hooked up with a GPS unit, although not sure why...I don't think a GPS unit would necessarily enable unmanned flight would it?
Judging from the Beer gut on this guy, I'd say he's going to use the aircraft to find him another six pack. The ultimate invention; a flying beer butler.
Maury Povich wouldn't help this guy find his baby's daddy so he's using the next best thing to a DNA test.
A shotgun would be fine. A nice 10 gage, full choke goose-gun would take down that machine up to several hundred feet. It might also make a dent in that guy's beer locker, but you'd have to get closer.
I think everyone's missing the point on the most incredible use of this thing, remote water/other fluid balloon bombing.
ok u guys are freaking me out with the endless knowledge of shotguns and firearms, the plane is good u know why? he based the streamline design by his gut, he will take off even if the plane doesnt, boeings are huge but they still take off, i reckon we should invest in him instead...
I'd say about 8 months pregnant
GET IN MY BELLY!!!!
"That's no moon..."
