Fujitsu's P1500D already being sold in the US
How we do love being so terribly wrong when we accuse one of the biggie foreign manufacturers of not bringing one of their hot new toys 'round our way. The Fujitsu P1500D doesn't look much different than it did when we took a look at it a couple weeks ago in the form of the P1510—same great 8.9-inch widescreen convertible tablet goodness—but now that it's here, we're itching to know what this thing can really do. Anyone care to try and install Windows XP Tablet on the thing and see what happens even despite that passive digitizer? Prices start at $1,500, so get on it, would you?

It's on Dynamism, but it's still pricing TBA. http://www.dynamism.com/p1510/
Unfortunately the Fujitsu site confirms the lack of a PC Card slot which leaves EVDO users out in the cold.
You can buy it direct from Fujitsu for $1499 or $1649

Wow, (w)svga! How wonderflly useless!
I've never considered a tablet, but for this, I might look.
I have a Fujitsu P5020 right now, and it's the best notebook I have ever owned. The thing is nigh bulletproof, and for such a tiny (10") machine, it's pretty damn powerful.
Not to mention the most important thing - Fujitsu has THE BEST customer service I have ever encountered from a computer company. Best ever. I love Fujitsu the same way I hate Sprint. They're like the Nordstrom's of computer companies.
Forget WinXP Tablet OS, its too fiddly. There's no way doctors and other targetted users are going to waste their time interacting with the text correction widget, and if they aren't careful you end up with incorrect data, which is worse than having to read bitmaps.
This thing is made for filling out forms with checkboxes and occasional text notes that may be transcribed later by someone else.
Nice little device too, except its only svga. I had their lifebook b series years ago which was basically identical and the low screen res was my only real gripe with it. Today's b series is XGA but not this notebook, which is too bad since Fujitsu makes a really nice crisp screen for their P5000 series.
*Is* there actually a tablet with a sub 10" screen with a minimum xga resolution? When I start back at school next January, I want to get a small, high-res tabet to do all my work on (I'll scan all my books in, etc). I can't believe that, in 2005, full-blown Windows XP PCs are stil being sold with SVGA displays.
Isn't such a paltry resolution the purview of glorified PDAs? Sheesh.
i prefer the new tablet pc from lenovo, which i'm not remember. cause its got the technology the same as IBM. it is IBM..also Lenovo is a great company. right?
#6> Yes... the Toshiba Libretto U100/U105 has a 7.2" screen with WXGA resolution (1280x768). Very squint worthy.
#6> Sorry, I just re-read your post and you were looking for a tablet pc, not a regular subnotebook laptop.
Tablets look awesome, never used one though.
I hope that when Apple goes Intel they make the new PowerBooks with a touchscreen so I can run Vista Tablet, or whatever it's going to be called.
Now, a little off-topic, but Engadget? could you ban "er or" from commenting, please?! What he/she says/grunts is hardly discernible and completely incoherrent. Maybe this isn't grounds for banning, but this is the third (i think) time I've been so annoyed by his childish ramblings thus far today.
Actually this device not having an active touch screen is kind of cool: the device ships with the app DialKeys. One of their people demonstrated it to me at conf not so long ago and it was awesome. They merged the notion of virtual keyboards and thumb keyboards with a lot of innovation. Take a look at their site: www.dialkeys.com
This is a great looking tablet form factor notebook. But if you try to bump the RAM to 1GB it will add $1550 WOW. Otherwise, upgrading to 60GB HDD, High Cap batt, port replicator,802.11g = $380. So forget the 1GB RAM for now and get this notebook for: $1978.
Got my attention. But I wonder if it has BT, viewanywhere and wide-angle view screens? Does anyone know?
I have found out that it does not have BT, no PCMCIA slot (for EVDO Card), not transreflective, but supposedly will work outdoors, Not sure about view angle - maybe 160 degrees?
Does anyone know if Fujitsu will release the P1500 with a PCMCIA slot? Seeing that the Bluetooth and Tablet PC OS versions aredue out soon?
Internal screen resolution is good at 1024x600. One does not need higher resolution for screen this small. Higher resolution for a screen this small is indeed "squint-worthy". External resolution is 1600x1200. There is a PCMICA slot (either type 1 or 2). It also is finally USB2. This baby seems to have everything packed in such a compact size, almost as small as the wonderfully mobile P1120.
