The Engadget Konfabulator widget
Shout outs to Akram Hussein who's cooked up a Dashboard Konfabulator widget for feeding on the
Engadget newsfeed in style. You can download the widget
here. Big thanks, yo!
Update: Listen up people — strike that, reverse it. It's a Konfabulator widget… but if anyone wants to make us a Dashboard widget to complete the collection, we promise we'll never confuse the twain in our haste ever again. Pinky swear.

got anything for us konfabulator users?
Joe Henson @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
I think it is for konfabulator not Dashboard
Oops
semi @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
yeah i came across this yesterday for konfab
Alex Mitchell @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
I'm sure it could be converted into a dashboard-compatible widget...I'll do it, if no one else wants to. I mean, RSS-reading widgets are pretty easy.
Jorg @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
An ideal ENGADGET Widget for Dashboard would have the same RSS feed of latest HEADLINES, with the following additions:
- whatever news item you MOUSE OVER will make the respective article PHOTO pop out on one side of the Widget, and the TEXT pop out on the other, similar to how Mailboxes appear in Mail perhaps!
- CLICKING any news item will take you directly to the individual article's page.
- CLICKING on the ENGADGET logo will take you to the homepage.
I am too computer illiterate to do this myself but perhaps someone will like this idea.
Peace.
akp @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Yes, this is a Konfabulator Widget (not Dashboard). Since Konfabulator is free for Windows and Mac users now, just about everyone can use this Widget! (rumor has it a Linux port is on the horizon too...)
Hopefully the Engadget editors will fix the headline quickly to avoid too much confusion :)
JT Mill @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Engadget, meet desktop.
Desktop, meet Engadget.
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Joshua Ochs @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Nevermind that this wouldn't be necessary if Weblogs Inc actually had a correct RSS feed. Every single other RSS feed I have can be shrunk down to just a headline in Safari RSS. Not only can Engadget, TUAW, and other WI feeds NOT be collapsed to just headlines, but they syndicate the whole damn article, pictures and all. It ends up being larger in the RSS feed than on the web site. Almost enough (that and the inane comments on anything tangentially related to Apple, Tivo, Microsoft, etc) to make me quit reading this site entirely.
Daniel @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
ya, you can tell it's not for Dashboard, it's not shaded in the background.
iDean @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
konfabulatoe or whatever sucks. Dashboard owns.
Drew Page @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
What gives? This is for crappy Konfabulator....ugh!
Drew Page @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
ugh! This is for that "other" widget program...not dashboard
Justin France @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Not that Dashboard 'borrowed' concepts, ideas and execution from Konfabulator. Never. Apple don't reference shareware apps and extensions for previous Mac OS's then fold them as Apple-branded components later. No, never.
I think Dashboard should be referred to as the "other" widget app.
That all said - wheres my Dashboard Engadget widget? This blows. :P

Dashboard is crap. I actually disabled it.
Long live Konfabulator. At least Konfabulator is constantly updated. Dashboard won't be updated again until Lion or whatever 10.5 is.
Justin France @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Jason Anderson, guh.
Dashboard's been updated two times, once a major update in 10.4.2.
Expect revisions throughout all the free 10.4.x updates.
Some people - do your homework!
Brian @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Dashboard is an absolute joke. Now that Konfabulator is free and cross-platform, there is simply no reason to develop for Dashboard anymore.
An aside: iDean, your opinion is immediately invalidated due to the lowercase "i" before your name. Welcome to 2005.
iDean @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Brian, grow up you super geek. Welcome to reality, where everything has "i" iCoke, iAudio, iWouldbeatyourassbrian...you see where I'm going with this?
Friggin' egotistical punk.
Justin France @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Brian, welcome to 2007, where "i" & "i-" are listed as prefixes in Dictionaries across the globe.
I'm blaming Steve Jobs.

Except that.. you know.. all Tiger users have Dashboard and only a fraction of PC users even know what Konfab is...
Dashboard has been out for a few months and already has about the same amount of Widgets as Konfab (Dashboards up around 1040 by now.. Konfab was around 1000 last i heard)
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
dashoard is the shit
Alex Mitchell @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Alright then...well, if no one else is going to make a dashboard-compatible one, then I suppose I will. Stay tuned.
sab @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
konfabulator was dead before tiger was even out.
Hans @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
what rubbish are you people blabbing about? konfabulator started the widget craze. and it still is very much alive, even if it's free now that yahoo bought it over.
Amol @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Heh, this actually RENEWED my interest in Konfabulator. I had it downloaded before, but I never used it. Never knew why I didn't like it before.
homer @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
ehmm this engadget widget doesn't look very good.
I mean it's ugly!
Why do you take a cool widget and modify the code?
(delete the copyright comment and you're right)
for the dashboard I used the BBC widget. It has the back too. Very cool.
VL-Tone @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
I bet that Konfab will reach 1000 widgets in 3 years from now, if they ever reach that number.
Like everyone (developers and users) would suddenly get in bed with Yahoo...
Even if Konfab is good technology and is free, in the wild wild world of Windows apps it will fail. Yahoo will own any widget you submit to them, and by the way Konfab did not become open-source, Yahoo owns it and can do whatever they want with it.
Dashboard is already installed part of OS X Tiger, while Konfab requires installing a third-party application, and most people are reluctant to do this.
Ahmad @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
btw akram goes to my skool keep it up nicely made
