Even more shots of the HTC Apache
The pics we found last week weren't so hot, but Mobile01 actually has a nice, clear shot of the
HTC Apache, that CDMA/EV-DO version of the HTC Wizard
that Sprint is supposedly going to sell as the Audiovox
PPC-6700. Or something like that. Anyway, in case you missed this one earlier, as far as we know the
Apache/PPC-6700 is 4.5 x 2.5 x 1-inches in size, runs on
Windows Mobile 5.0 and has
a QVGA display, 128MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, a QWERTY keyboard that slides out horizontally, 802.11b, Bluetooth, a 1.3
megapixel digital camera, and a miniSD card slot.

I'm not entirely sold on the whole horizontal orientation (Nokia 9500, LG F91/200, Moto A630) tip, though it makes most sense PDA phones like this with email, web, and video apps.
This model looks sexy and svelte. Definitely more sleek than the qtek/imate/audiovox vertical qwerty slider. Nice of them to include that fruit peeler on the left, though the Asian text might take some getting used to.

anyone know when this will go on sale? specifically the Sprint version.
diem @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
i like the horizontal layout for the slide-out qwerty keyboard, it makes more sense functionally + ergonomically.
Does anyone know who/what/when the first GSM model will be available (anywhere in the world)? (sprint blows)

Will there be a Verizon version?

Hasn't anyone else noticed that the Windows/OK buttons seen on the "Treo 670" were lifted directly off of the Apache here? Take a good look. Treo 670 is bullshit.
duh.. @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
hey hater, did you ever think that the windows button is for WM5? treo has betrayed you and WAAAAAAAAAAA! get over it.
hello @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
#8 your a moron, treo 670 is 4 real.
doesn't mean they are going to put it in to production but those pics and videos are of a real working unit.
anyways I can't wait for the 670, who knows when it's coming out, or if.
since I lost my 650, I'm lost? I need a new all in one device soon. so does anyone out there know when and where I can get one of these. when and where?
yem @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
This is shaping up to be quite the phone! I can't wait until the GSM version comes out. It'll be interesting to see whether or not Palm adds WiFi to the Treo 670. That's going to be the deciding factor in my next smart phone purchase.
Galley @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
No PalmOS = No sale!
edizzle @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
have any idea when this pocketpc phone will hit the shelf

The only (easily changed) complaint I have is the numbering system. They need to make the numbers in a keypad format on the keyboard. For instance, look at the treo and the sx66. They have the numbers highlighted in a keypad format. That is how it needs to be!!! Anyone else feel this way?
Martin Hanson @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
Nope, don't need the numbers on the keyboard in a keypad layout--all calls will be dialed from the contacts list or from the keypad display. I see no need for the keypad layout and was happy to see they abandoned it. On the Samsung i730 there were too many uses for the keys Fn, Ctrl, Shft, etc. keep it simple.
evdo bob @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
Zach, Personally.. I need the num locks feature.. I'm sure the UTStarcomm Design Team is reading this.. Mark... you getting these cues?

I have been using the Sprint PPC6700 for a week now and it is a great unit. I like the phone and WiFi being on at the same time. Works great with my Moto HS850 Bluetooth headset. We only have EVDO at the airport, so I haven't tried it yet. Come with a nice horizontal belt clip case. The stylus is handy stored in the antenna housing. I just got a 1gig Mini SD card and will start loading music next.
