Thieves steal Segways, can't figure out how to sell 'em
You know it's harsh when you hear that thieves who managed to swipe ten of your $5,000+ product—Segways in this case—get away scot free, and can't even figure out a way to sell the product on the gray market. Apparently the ten scooters were found in mint condition after sitting in a warehouse for four months, abandoned by the perps. Sheez guys, haven't you ever heard of eBay or Craigslist?

correct me if I'm wrong, but the linked article in a New Hampshire news site, is talking about manchester N.H, especially as the first line of the article starts "Concorde N.H".
Not even the Brits would be stupid enought to steal these things!
Cyberwhore @ Dec 19th 2005 1:03AM
Does the stupid grin come with owning one?
The new four wheeled Segway prototype looks hot tho. I wouldn't actually mind getting one if and when they ever get released.

Sir/madam being a native of Manchester UK, I take it as an insult against my hometown, which implied that that the good honest citizens of Manchester UK would be willing to purchase stolen goods, that sir would be a lie:-)
Griffin @ Dec 19th 2005 1:03AM
Is it really that suprising they couldn't sell them?
A) Would you buy something so extremely attention grabbing when you know it's stolen? Wouldn't that be unbelievably stupid?
B) They didn't steal the keys, Segway's can't be hotwired easily and without the individually matched encrypted keys they are just big paper weights.

See... Crime doesn't pay.
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:03AM
Keys. Without the keys, #7 is right--they were trying to sell paperweights.
Plus, Segways would roll unless you put the kickstand down--but then you could put an indentation with the kickstand on your papers. Maybe it would just be best to lay it on its side.

As said above, this is MAnchester, NH. Most of you probably know that Segway's main manufacturing plant is in Bedford, NH. DEKA research is also in the middle of MAnchester. As such, there are Segway's EVERYWHERE. I think everyone who wants a Segway here has one...or at least it seems that way. Plus, im sure if the theifs tried to sell them on Ebay or Craigslist, they would've been swiftly tracked down.
