HTC is building the Treo 670 for Palm

Remember how back in March a pic leaked out of a Treo 670
prototype with an HTC logo on its screen? Well, the word out of Taiwan is that HTC just scored a major contract to
build the first Windows Mobile-powered Treo (aka the
Treo 670) for Palm, with volume shipments set to begin in Q1 of 2006. Not that it really could have been anyone
else but HTC, not only do they pump out more Windows Mobile-powered Pocket PC Phones and Smartphones than just about
any other company on the planet, they're also the contract manufacturer for the Palm-powered Treo 650, too.

Ok, now I am convinced! This is for real! Wow! I only wish that it comes with 320x320 resolution as opposed to 240x240.
mahootzki @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
WOW, the pic was taken, when???
Dale @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
It's amazing how much Palm continues to suck day after day, year after year.
Gus Jenkins @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM

jg @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
i want 1900 X 1900 res. Sorry just trying to one up everyone else. This is sweet hopefully those of us in the US will actually be able to buy this in the US in Q1 of next year and not have to pick it up off ebay or something.

And its amazing how many commenters continue to whine day after day, year after year.
When you don't make a point, it just sounds like (and is) whining.

So, does anybody think that we are going to see a Treo + LifeDrive any time in the (near) future? It seems like this is an easy step to get an all in one. And with WM5 supporting HDDs, it seems like an easy implementaion. When is this gonna hit us?

I hope this one doesn't suck so bad. Working for Cingular retail, I hate selling (aside from the nice data commissions) the HTC Siemens SX66, HTC Audiovox SMT 5600 and Palm Treo 650. The 5600 was awesome when it was AT&T branded, now we can't get our demo to stop freezing and customers complain about the same thing. The SX66 is huge, slow, buggy and incredible slow with GPRS. And the Treo 650 I won't sell anymore because it usually requires at least 4 return visits to get it to stop freezing, restarting or to get email/web browsing finally working. And it's definitely a device thing, I know how to provision data in the system.

Got a question...if it's got EVDO, what do you need WiFi for??
get buff @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
i have ev-do on my xv6600 and find myself wishing for wi-fi all the time. especially when streaming in places with routers.
Iceman @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
I want wifi on my converged device in order to access my LAN from my couch.
gus @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
True, when will they start using dual antennas? Like I used to see the CB radio guys using?
illwafer @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
also, with wi-fi you can accept incoming voice calls while you are on the web.
candy4chris @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
Man this sucks. My religion (Mac) does not permit me to endorse a MS product. I actually liked have an alternative. Now my last unlikely hope is that Apple decides to resurrect the Newton brand and bless it with network connectivity. C'mon Apple!

Here's a shot of the Treo 700 from an Italian website.

Serpico:
Try saving the larger image at the bottom of that site and tell us all what the name of the file is?
does look nice though!

#17-that is hilarious. if you're gonna photoshop hardware into existence, make sure you name it something that sounds legit!
mat @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
hah! fake treo. thats great.
ToeCutter @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
Ha! Even though this is now CONFIRMED, we STILL see the silly "It's a fake.." posts by the Palminati! For crying out loud, snap out of your denial! I'll wager that Palm ships 600,000 of these by the end of Q2 next year. This undoubtedly represents the last nail in the coffin for PalmOS. I doubt even the Linux port will make much of a difference now. Where can I pre-order one, I wonder?
jb @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
i have one of the prototypes.. wow.. still very buggy but i am in love with it. i have had literally every major released and unreleased pda/smartphone, etc. and so far this one beats them all. this is by far the best keyboard ive ever used on any device bar the Sidekick2. between that and the ev do. man. im in love...
ChodaBoy @ Dec 19th 2005 12:18AM
That "Treo 700" photo was passed around on TreoCentral.com some time ago. Notice the shadow of the photoshop-erased antenna. Notice "bluetooh" in the specs.
