New Orb Add-On: TiVoAnywhere
Orb Networks opened up their API a
few days ago, they must have figured out that loosening up and letting developers (and the rest of us) create
third-party plug-ins for their placeshifting app is an easy way to add value and make their product even more
attractive to customers (Sony, are you listening?). Anyway, one of the best we've seen yet is a TiVoToGo add-on called
TiVoAnywhere that'll let you remotely access shows recorded on your TiVo (as well as schedule recordings) from any
Orb-compatible device (which used to include just PCs and smartphones that had Windows Media Player, but they've
recently expanded compatibility to add support for RealPlayer and a few other players).
[Thanks, Tom]

I'm waiting for one that will allow me to access Orb on my xbox. Xbox media center does everything orb does but one crucial feature: streaming television. My school doesn't have cable, so I stream my home cable through orb....getting that into XBMC would be great.
Orb is a really great tool. I use it all the time to stream tv (and other content) to my laptop and other computers. The only feature I really want is to be able to use streaming orb video on my Verizon Motorola e815 instead of their crappy vcast service.
the problem with orb is it uses all your resources even when its not streaming, some people say it is secretly a distributed client for orbs profitability.. others say its indexing and pre-hashing your files.. either way its not made clear in any documentation.. anyone have insights?
With DVArchive you'd think ReplayTV would have been the first DVR to be accessed remotely by ORB... since it can be accessed remotely nativly anyway.
Have anyone gotten his orb service working?
Mine is very spotty.
The photo service work 90% of the time, mp3 stream is about 50% and video streaming is about 10%.
I run my home machine off a 5mb/384kb cable line.
Anyone gonna make a hack so I can stream content onto my PSP??? That would be the shiznit.
hah, that indeed would be the shizit
i have a Humax TiVo DVR DVD-recorder and such, and it doesnt support TiVotoGo, any chance i could hack it?
This is so hot, I can't believe it. I've got severe geekbone right now.
Thanks for the excitement about our new API. We are rolling a new version of TiVoAnywhere into the basic product -- should be out later this week. Any of the folks commenting that are having trouble -- please check to make sure you are running Orb on a box meeting our minimum config recommendation -- 2.6 Ghz Pentium 4 (yes, streaming media is CPU intensive). And that you have the latest version of Orb.... And feel free to send me questions directly to help resolve your problems! tshelton (at) orb.com
