10 mph: it's like On the Road, 'cept with... Segways.
You know, we're all for stickin' it to The Man, quitting corporate jobs and heading off on a more Bohemian, carefree
life. We just don't normally associate that carefree Bohemian life with the
Segway, but these guys do: Josh Caldwell and
Hunter Weeks ditched corporate America to film their new life on the open road — on a Segway. Weeks took care of
filming duties while Caldwell rode the mighty human transporter from Seattle to Boston, and they've now got a trailer
available for the upcoming film. It's about life, it's about passion — it's about Segway.

"My idea is like a seed..."
Yeah, how about closing your legs, fatass.
I don't need a frontal of your stanky nutsack

I just started a new job in July and on my first day another person was starting there as well...Josh Caldwell.
It's been very interesting talking to him about the making of this documentary. How they decided to make it. And all of the cool things that they encountered on the way.
It makes me wish I had done some more stuff before getting married and having a family. Not that I don't love my family or anything. I just wish I had experience more of this world before creating my own.
You youngies reading this post might want to think about that.

Chris: Ask Josh why he did it? Segway is such an odd product...
Is it also about generating more press for this "world changing" device that failed to change the world? ;)
LD @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Uh, what "cushy corporate jobs" did these guys have? One of them had already even filmed a previous documentary that aired on E!
While the film looks very interesting, why do they need to make shit up?
Diesel @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Chris:
Right there with you. I work with Hunter Weeks, very interesting story and I had the same feeling. Wish I had done more before I started a family too. But as like you, I wouldn't trade what I do now have for anything.
Evan:
The Segway company had *no* involvement with this film and so this has nothing to do with promotion on their part.
LD:
What are they making up? They both were tired of the cubicle life and wanted to do something different. Hunter is a great photograpehr and filmographer as well. I see no "making shit up" anywhere...
otakucode @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
It's like On The Road? So both the guys are junkies and we get to see them trying to score H on their Segways? That might be worth a watch...
Hunter @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
I just wanted to thank Deb for a good write-up. And for the pundits, I'm fulfilling my passions and living the American Dream. This movie captures America through the people we met and the crazy-ass Segway trip we took. You'll love it when you see it.
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Evan: Josh said that they had the idea because they just wanted to "slow down." It was a pretty organic idea that grew from that simple statement.
LD: You're way off. They were both working in corporate America. Josh was working for a software company. They used all of their liquid cash and went into debt making this film.
Otakucode: Even further off. No H. No X.
otakucode @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
Chris: Well that doesn't sound anything LIKE On The Road then. Kerouac and all his buds were junkies. And of course no freakin X, this was in the 60s.
Danny @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
This movie still sounds ridiculously lame and self-indulgent. I don't even particularly like Kerouac, but to compare these hacks to him is a travesty.

"Its about life, its about passion"
It's about stopping every 8-12 miles to charge it back up: http://www.segway.com/segway/specs_iseries.html
cj @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
I was thinking the same thing about how much time was spent recharging.
Also, the FoxNews interview mentioned it took 100 days. Hmmm, I'm thinking 100 days @ 10 mph = 1000 mi max. Seattle to Boston is > 3000 mi. What gives?
cj @ Dec 19th 2005 1:24AM
uhh..never mind..I'm an idiot.
