Xbox 360 weighs in at $299 to $399

Exactly as we thought they would, Microsoft's announced the official base price for the Xbox 360 at $299, with a
$399 version available (no surprise there either). The
$299 version will come bare with a wired controller, while the $399 version will have a 20GB drive, wireless
controller, headset, and remote. We're still on the fence about forking the product to make it more affordable, but
hey, not our company!

um yea i didnt take the time to read over all of this but most of what i read was more like repeating.But anyways incase u guys didnt know the hard drive is required for the backwards compatibility.and also not all games will be backwards compatible mainly just top sellers"HALO""PGR2" but anyways just incase u guys didnt know now u do
has microsoft gone mad? they will be using their "vista" to control everyone? the xbox was junk and so will this one, me i spent all of my hard earnd money into a high end, game cruching macine. people buy these things becuse they dont know wat a gaming computer is, vidieo games are soooooo old it just gets boring to listen to these junk macines that are over priced and the games... the games are more money than anything else, $50 for each *new game for like 10 thats like 500 dollers right there, i dont think people should waist there money ona money dominating buissnes bi-product to make the extra quick buk, bill gates has more money that sense, hes also the cheapest person alive, i would never give him money, like the previeos 500 people BOYCUT this "video system" so microsft sys "ok lets cut the bullshit"

I think the price is stupid. 400 dollars is outragous. I believe that the MS people are going to kill themselves. Sony will come out with a price that is better than 400. Everyone will buy the ps3.
Here in the UK our premium xbox will cost us the equiv of 505 of your US dollars, the original xbox cost 540 dollars. The price this time round is fantastic, for all the kit you get, people shouldn't complain!!!

I got to play this thing and saw footage of numerous games at some recent conferences. All I can say is, no wonder they're not showing any gameplay footage...because nobody would buy it. They're hyping this system up so much that people are drooling to get it even though they have seen no actual in-game footage. Its all smoke and mirrors. The thing that makes this system 'seem' impressive is the high def visuals, but all they are are upgraded XBox 1 visuals. Take away the HD display and you'll be hard pressed to see any difference. And, there are no new ideas here either. More FPS's, racing games, etc. so it'll be high def versions of games you've been playing for the past decade. They need to rush this system out because they know that the only way people will get it is if they have no other choice. MS is also going to nickel and dime the heck out of you too; even if you buy the 'loaded' edition, you still have to spring $20 for a rechargeable battery pack (oops they didnt mention that yet - their wireless controller doesnt come with batteries) and if you want to play games on XBOX Live you'll have to shell out another $50. Dont have an HDTV? Dont worry, you can still get top quality from an S-Video cable (sold separately, there is no S-Video cable included with either version) for 24.99. If you want to play with friends, you'll also need to drop $50 bucks for another controller, plus another $20 for batteries. So, that brings this 'value' edition up to $565.00. And, you still need to get a game for $60. Also, Microsoft opted to go with a DVD-9 drive, despite their recent announcenment that they are backing HD-DVD. The solution? The 'early adopters' who buy the system on launch day get the wonderful privelege of shipping their consoles back to Microsoft to upgrade the drive later in 2006 because they wanted to rush a half-finished product into stores before Christmas. And also by that time, Microsoft has already said that they are going to drop the price of the 360 within one year. If you buy this at launch it would be foolish. Trust me, it aint worth it. Its all hype, and when 11/22 rolls around and you realize how much this system stinks you'll remember that I told you so. I would say wait until all of the systems are out from MS, Sony and Nintendo before you make your decision.

And secondly there are 2 many ridiculous pricing schemes ...oo u need 4 controllers for the Xbox, 6 games, xbox live, 2 hardrives lolol. In my opinion the only necessary add-on is one game. I am surprised Ken wud even state that the PS3 will be expensive, horrible marketing idea but i guess MS made a couple of errors themselves. Bottom line guys, this core package feeds the needs of about 15% of the gamers, and the more gamers you can reach the better. I love the 360, I think the Revolution is brilliant, and the PS3 looks like it has amazing capabilities. But to be honest, its too bad Ken already stated that the PS3 will be more expensive because now im surely buying the 360, and maybe the PS3 when a price drop occurs.
WOW! There are a lot of good and bad ideas out there in the world. I personally think that we all are going to end up buying all 3 system (because I am); I'm not a fan of any of the systems, they're all great and I myself love video games. I'm buying all 3 system because I have a passion for video game, each one has a uniqueness about them. These are product, service and goods that we as consumer must pay to use it regardless of what you think. If its not worth it then find an alternative; I personally do have a problem with the games prices. One of the comment that I've read in here stated that "if ESPN can make a great game for $19.99, other companies can do it too". To make a long story short, you can be bias about home console, but most of us grew up playing video games and will still appreciate any new style or ways to play games,I don't see this as a console war but "steps" to advance our technologies for future gaming, I mean look @ how far we have come and even those old games are still some of the best to play, I've just played Grandian Legend for the NES and it felt GREAT! If you think that raw power makes a system great then you are GREATLY WRONG, raw power only do so much for a game, its everything from gameplay, sound, depth, story, etcs, I can go on and on, but qualities will put a game in the history book. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK NINTENDO,SONY AND MICORSOFT! All of you are doing great!

I believe that microsoft doesn't actually expect anyone to buy the core system. I think that they did this so that they could justify the 400 dollars. I have always been a nintendo fan til the original xbox came out, ps1 and 2 aren't even close. I have never liked the performance of the ps. Now that the 360 is coming out i can laugh in all those stupid playstation fans and show them how my system blows their's out of the water. If you read the specs on the ps3 its basically the same damn thing. I am also tired of people complaining about the games for the xbox(original) just because ps2 has 10x the games doesn't make even the slightest difference to me. Just over personal opinion almost all ps2 games suck. I've actually seen games with worse than sega graphics and somehow people think that this makes it a better system. The other thing is that people in japan suck ass, they only prefer the ps2 because of the fact that sony is a japanese brand, the same as these american car nuts that think they need to buy their country's brands for some reason, even though they are more expensive and not as good. Either way i've already pre-ordered my xbox 360. I also think this is gonna be a big seller considering almost all stores are already out of the preorders.
Anyone who says that the Japanese prefer PS2 because it's japanese, is an idiot. Obviously the Xbox has no ?remely awesome games except halo 1&2 and GTA, and the Japanese don't like those types of games, period.
Also, the 360 made the smallest graphics leap from its predecessor in the history of videogames, so saying "PS3 HAS THE SAME SPECS AS PS2!!11ELEVEN!!" is just plain retarded. The only thing new is their GPU architecture... so? It still can't match the PS3 with all that fancy-schmancy efficency. The difference is that the PS3 will be harder to program for... so? Unless you're a lazy programmer, you won't care just as you didn't with PS2's shitty programming interface.
It's natural that the 360 is sold out given all the hype MSFT created, and because it's a new system, just like the Dreamcast was selling when it came out.
Have fun watching movies on an inferior format named "HD-DVD" on 360... Oh wait, it can't even do that.
I have always been into computers and could never really see the hype in gaming consoles. However, I have to agree that for $399 you get alot of bang per buck. I spent $2300 building a computer and the xbox 360 has graphics that look pretty much the same. I also like what I saw for the PS3. But, like I said I never really got into consoles so I cant really say if they are that much better. I can say the regaular xbox and the ps2 arent as good as my computer and thats why i never invested. If your trying to figure out if your going to buy it or not, one thing to decide would be if you like it. If you like it, and enjoy it and will pay for it...then get it.

The xbox has more then the xbox 360 $299 version and that is as much as the xbox was when it came out! Why the hell the sudden raise in price? they should reduce the prices each by a hundred if not anymore then that. I hope they lose so much money by doing this making them have to lower it. well, in all actuality, microsoft really loses money by selling the console for that price. I do agree that it is expensive, but at least they arent selling it for what it costs them to make it. Where they make there money is on the video games that cost about 10 cents apeice to mass produce.
don't forget that the ps3 comes standard with blu-ray, remember when dvd players became popular? $300! yes, you can expect that with a blu-ray player, you can play all ps, and ps2 games as well. i personally can't decide between the ps3 and the nintendo revolution. screw the 360
For all the gaMeRs out there that have played XBOX LIVE...Live is where its at.!! Being able to jump in a room with 40 fucking people screaming there headS off is priceless...to have so many people on and being able to talk with all of them is going to be great...i trashed my XBOX b/c i got tired of the shitty graphics and disk read errors....But as this being a new console With ALLL games being in HD..lol thats going to rock...i got myself a 26'' HDtv just to go on my desk..i use it as my pc monitor now..and when the 360 gets here ill just plug it right in...i was going to just get the $299ver..but after seeing all that comes with the $399ver...well i got sold..theres SOOO much comming with the$399ver...i cant wait to Rape a nub on my 360.....and as for all the noobs in here talking bad about the price..lmao its time to go get a better job if you cant handle $399.!! You guys really need to get over it. You can buy the $300.00 system, and the a HD for $100.00, then a wireless controller for $39.00.OR Just buy the $400.00 with all that for less that it would cost separate.
