Peep Intel's new VIIV spec
With Intel's Developer Forum well underway, we expected something a little more than their once again reverting to making up licensing schemes for promoting arbitrary names for Intel products (see: Centrino). It appears that isn't exactly the case though, since in addition to the other forty stickers you get on your PC, you may soon be seeing one for VIIV, Intel's new home-entertainment PC-centric spec for an all-Intel box (i.e. CPU, chipset, WiFi, etc.) capable of running the latest and greatest in multimedia. That's it, the mystery's over for all the Intel fans out there wondering for months what that VIIV buzz was about. Just thought we'd give you a heads up—how are you supposed to pronounce that, anyway? Veev? Vif?

Maybe you're supposed to pronounce it "six four."
The Romans must be turning in their graves right now.
[crazy joke]
no of course its not "six four" its ten! i mean, anyone knows that in roman numerals, its doesnt matter where they are, so you add em all up and you get 10! they decided to skip numbers 5-9 and go straight to 10, like winamp did, but with more numbers.
[/crazy joke] (im sorry)
[more serious]
they probaly mean it to say 64, which would make sense, since it seems that thats where CPUs are going

It's Intel's new 64 bit processor. So the Roman numerals could either represent a new socket type “525”, or just easily enough, Intel 64.
lah lah lah connect the dots.
lah lah lah connect the dots.
i think thats how pee-wee sang it.
on another note, this is what i found on google.
http://viivweb.hp.infoseek.co.jp/
"v" "double-i" "v" maybe?
Who are the marketing wizards that come up with this stuff?
5: It's the other way around:
"Connect the dots, la la lala. Connect the dots, la la la lala."
I still hum that to myself on occasion. And scream real loud whenever someone says zizzybaluba.
My guess was also 64, as in 64 bit computing. CXVI, just isn't the same, but also pronounced "ViV" like Li"VIV"ing room. Please refrain from correcting my spelling.
There are intel fans? For real? I mean, like people who get all excited about Intel's newest chip offerings? WOW! I'm not as much of a loser as I thought!

Viiv is pronounced "vīv" and rhymes with "five". See http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/releases/20050824comp.htm for details.
#5, #8, #12
God bless Paul Rubens. It makes me sad to think how those bastards ruined him.
No. viiv is alive!
Shouldn't it be "LXIV"?
V2V?
Or V to V?

#19 Sorry to correct you, but that's "Larry" Fishburne.
He reverted back to "Lawrence" when he wasn't being taken seriously enough as an actor. Being a fully grown man dressing up as a cowboy might have had something to do with that image.
maybe its a woman with 2 penis's
Hmm. Maybe also 7-5?
agreed on 64 bit thing
i kinda like AMD's design, and i wouldn't want to see this hippie intel sticker on my future machines.
so...did anyone really connect the dots to make the house with wifi signals coming out of it?
yeah.. you guys can tell i have nothing better to do at work..data entry gets boring sometimes..and this is one of those times.
I have to agree with #23 hafa. I prefer AMD over Intel for desktop processors any day. Although that does make it uncomfortable talking to my uncle (who works for Intel) about computers. I always try to stay away from the processors and just talk about the other parts like video cards, RAM, hard drives, etc. Anyways, I wonder if Intel is trying to do something like Apple. You know, try and get people to buy a computer because most of the parts are from this well known company.

EARTH TO ENGADGETEERS: This is a pre-announcement to the CEDIA expo two weeks from now. They're jump-starting the buzz machine (I think it's battery died). Look it up (CEDIA):

The show is huge; It's CES in the little ole' Indianapolis. This engadgeteer will be there...
According ro the BBC website it's pronounced like "five" but with a v, so "vive".

I'd say it was "Vee two Vee" like "B2B", of course that makes little sense - maybe it's "Video to viewer" or something dumb. No less dumb of course than "Centrino".
Isn't this Eastfork, their new chipset, The Inquirer seem to think so http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=25598
If so we can look forward to more stealth DRM in our ubiquitious home entertainment device
