Sony, Samsung joint venture extended

Sony LCD

Anything to get the prices of LCDs down to a reasonable amount is a good thing. If Sony and Samsung want to work together to “improve panel quality and cut manufacturing costs.” We say GREAT. They created a $2 billion joint venture in 2004 to mass-produce LCD panels and so far it as been successful for them.

Sony must be preparing to flood the market with the new Bravia line of LCDs to compete against Sharp and Panasonic. Right now they have very few models to choose from and they are all on the high-end price. Hopefully the partnership with Samsung will start to improve the selection along with the price.
