Viiv is alive, but where did it come from?
So we were all wondering what the heck this whole VIIV thing is about, and Digital Home Group VP Don MacDonald (no relation to Ronald) comes through with the answer: VIIV is meant to connotate "alive" and "vivacious." Still, there are some other theories holding sway in this great game of Balderdash, such as "a curse in Finnish," "a desk lamp at Ikea," a leftover from the Pentium 5, "livid," "vile," 64 in Roman numerals, a fast ferry service on the island of Yeu (our personal favorite), a name for Bahasa — the language of Indonesia, and a striped cap polo shirt from Nordstrom. So it's Balderdash free-for-all, yo — what do you think VIIV means?

It means no worries, for the rest of your daayyys...
Victorious Intel inside Vorevah!
it means gay.... (they couldnt think of something else that was "sticky")
if you turn it upside down it looks a little bit like " AIIA "

ooh! 64 bit! :D
viva VIIIV!(vive)
Intel Viiv technology (the name rhymes with “five”) is designed for extremely easy use. This new intel platform is designed for multimedia applications and home entertainment.
Features include:
- Ability to access music, movies, photos and video from the PC on a TV or home-theater system, using a TV-like user interface
- Intel® Quick Resume Technology, enabling quick on and off after system initial boot
Dual-core processors that enable multiple users to simultaneously enjoy games, music or movies from the same PC throughout the home
- Easy navigation to entertainment with a remote control
- 5.1 surround sound (7.1 optional) for home-theater quality sound
- Easy connections to DVD players, TV sets and stereos
- Home network configuration wizard
- Microsoft Windows* Media Center Edition operating system
I'd say the 64 in Roman Numerals theory sounds the most plausable. I reckon it's quite likely that the devlopment team came up with it when they were designing the chip, and then the markting team got hold of it and made up a load of rubbish to try and sell it!
Wouldn't be 64 in Roman numerals - that would involve 50, which is L...
Maybe it's meant to be spelled (not pronounced): V-I-I-V?
It's OBVIOUSLY a face with two peace signs!
V II V
V (I.I) V
Duh...
by the way, there's a newer logo ..
looks like this
v//v (not v||v)
1st v is purple
the 1st / pink
the second / red
the 2nd v yellow
..
all the info comes from the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco
I vote for 64 in Roman Numerals.

Given that AMD has been eating Intel for lunch in the 64 bit arena, I can't imagine why Intel would want a new logo with two arrows pointing downward.
And I still think the logo looks like the upper face of a floppy eared dog. The two I's are the eyes, and the V's are the ears.
I'd go also with the 64 in roman numerals... even though incorrect formation, that's never stopped a megacorporation before.
I think I actually do have a desk lamp from IKEA called "VIIV"... Oo
I have no idea what it stands for but I sure hope The Blueman Group is somehow involved.
Wait a second, The Register apparently explains the whole thing.

64 is LXIV in roman numerals so i doubt it means 64
VIIV ? How about

You people have it all wrong! In true engadget tradition, the image is just badly cropped and the name is actually YUY

Well, it is the V (five) chip. Not quite VI (six), but better than IV (four)...
It looks sorta like an emoticon for a sleeping pig. The V V are closed eyes and the || are the nose.
V||V
My alma mater did a similar stupid thing with their initials, VT. They italicized them and jammed them together so now it looks like the square root of 1.
I think calling it Pentium LXIV would have been cool. I REALLY hope they aren't trying to do 64 with VIIV, my Latin teacher would freak out.
I saw in the press release it's pronounced like "vive". Something tells me they just wanted something they could rhyme with "Jive".
(Or maybe VIIV is short for: "if we don't call it a 64b dual core chip then maybe no one will notice how hard AMD is beating us in chip design and in the market." (Only I'm a little hard up to fine the VIIV in that...))
This new technology brings no new technology that benefits the consumer. The whole thing is exsiting technology and, importantly, Hardware DRM.
There is nothing new in this for the consumer at all, its entirely a stealth meachanism to getting WinTel total domination of the digital media market.
A rather sweeping statement I know, but the point is, this mechanism converts all your existing media to the new format, which is then "protected" and only playable on a system offering the same "protection". And the curse of it is, Microsoft are the only people with the software hooks, so if you're not using an MS o/s you wont be able to view the protected material.
This will even convert your own pictures, mp3's, video's to the new format.
With only MS in the ring for this, Apple & Linux and old die hards on earlier versions of Windows wont be able to view the technology.
And lets face it, the content providers are going to leap on this bandwagon as they know their rights will be protected.
This is the perfect mechanism for pay-per-view for digital content and its also the spawn of satan.
It's 5 two 5 time to go home and have some fun!
Could it be 64 in Roman Numerals, as in "64 bits"?
And I can guarantee you, it's not a curse in Finnish... plenty of other words for that, fox example V***U!
number viiv is alive

The larger dots around the logo are arranged like a pentagram, indicating that this is a Pentium 5. The smaller dots are arranged like a TV with rabbit ears, indicating that the processor is geared for entertainment.
I also go along with the VIIV=64. I know it is a bastardization of the roman numbering system, but since when do people follow the rules when it comes to product marketing?
I think it represents dual core pentium chips. The two Is represent the cores while the V is for Pentium chip. If not then it's just nonsense to get the public talking granting them free publicity just like the IT thing which turned out to be just an expensive scooter.
The mouth of Dracula badly cropped.
Like someone already noted Viiv rhymes with "Five", thus Pentium Viiv is Pentium Five....
It think it represents parallel processing with dual cores. Hence the parallel sign // between the two V's. not || or II .
viiv=vibrant intel inside visual
It is obviously a symbol for 64Bit. But the Pentium 4 600-series already has 64 bit...
VIIV
VI IV
6 4
64 Bit.
It's obviously a puppy emoticon.
it's 64 bit and pentium five
