HTC Wizard coming to T-Mobile in October
Another big score for T-Mobile USA. Yesterday we were able to confirm that they'll be getting the
HTC Tornado, that new Windows Mobile-powered smartphone
with built-in WiFi, now we've learned from an inside source that beginning in October T-Mob subscribers here in the US
will be able to get all cozy with the
HTC Wizard, too. No exact
release date, but the price will probably (but not definitely) be somewhere around $400 or $500. This one probably
won't be an exclusive, since since supposedly Cingular is
also getting the Wizard, but it's good to see that T-Mobile is finally getting some decent phones, right?
[Thanks, J.]

T-mobile is coming out of the cave!! They ROCK!
I am so confused with HTC right now... I have seen 4 different phones all labled HTC (something). Which phone is the Wizard, which phone is the Tornado, and which phone is the Galaxy? I've also seen an HTC Magician!! AHHH!!
What's going on with this phone being released on Sprint?
So what will become of the sidekick? I mean, this is like the same appeal of the sidekick... but way better. Is Danger in danger of being ditched?
No. 3 - The HTC Apache is the CDMA version of the Wizard. Should be out in October, too.
No. 4 - I think Danger will be fine, the Wizard will cost more and is aimed more at power users than consumers.
I'd say HP is the best overall.
I will be using this together with my CSKII and see which I like better - then I will be switching, if thats the case.
Danger vs Wizard... we shall see.

#2, HTC wizard is the quadband GSM phone, HTC Tornado is the replacement to the HTC Typhoon which is a candybar phone with no touchscreen and no qwerty, HTC Galaxy is NOT a phone, but has built in GPS, and the HTC Magician is the I-Mate Jam which is about a year old now.
as for #4, they will keep carrying the sidekick as it is mostly a toy, this is a powerful unit aimed at business users.
Anyone know if they will be setting up a service similar to the BB Web Client in order to push email out to the new WM 5 devices?
Ok T-Mobile this is a good start, now I want to see the HTC Universal released this holiday season.
The form factor looks kinda like the sidekick. Has anyone seen one of these devices in person? How does it compare? Won't TMob be cannibalizing their own market here? Most importantly, which celebs are going to blatantly hock these phones?
Man, it is about time. T-Mobile clearly has the worst and oldest selection of phones on the US market. I've been itching to replace my Sony Ericsson T-68i for literally years now and I just can find anything that is significantly better (with a similar form factor and feature set) AND is offered by T-Mobile. If I wasn't so happy with the service and fearful of the service offered by Sprint, Cingular, et al; I would have switched a long time ago.
So what good is an EDGE enabled phone with T-Mo USA??? The rest of the phone is great, but only Cingular (whom I will join shortly) has EDGE in the US.
#11: You use a GSM carrier. If you are so angry about T-Mobile's phone selection, they why haven't you just bought an unlocked phone elsewhere, instead of waiting for two friggin' years? Hello.
Cingular isn't the only one with Edge...T-Mo has deployed Edge in several markets, and the release of the Wizard is expected to coincide with near full-network EDGE capability
Last I checked, Verizon needs some new phone love too. I probably have roughly a year left on my contract, and the phone selection looks pretty lame. New Every Two is nice and all, but Cingular's coverage is suprisingly good here, so I may just switch over when it's contract renewal time, $100 off a phone or not.
Mr. D.S. (comment 16) the last news release I read indicated T-Mo was not bringing EDGE to the US until late 2006. Can you direct me to some information source which has info to the contrary? Philip (full of hope)
RE: 18
Check this tread out at howardforums. A lot of people have reported edge from T-mobile in numerous places:

I think you might be getting confused with T-Mobiles 3g plans, that will be late 2006/early 2007 before its ready.

bluetooth and i'm pretty sure i'm in.
Any update on when the HTC Universal is going to hit the stores? The posts when mobile 5 came out said second half of 06 world wide including US. But I haven't seen anything but reviews on it since then. My contracts coming up in October...
this HTC thingy is cool. I hope it drops by my area soon
Yup. Played with both the Sidekick 2 and the HTC Wizard. They're both aimed at different markets. The DS2 is for kids (and Paris Hilton) and is a 'smartphone lite'. It's also huge compared to the HTC. The HTC device is sweet. Much smaller than the Sidekick (obvciously) with a nice bright screen (not VGA) and a surprisingly good keyboard. The kayboard slides down, rather than having the twisty screen. It also has all the Bluetooth nonsense and 1.3MPx camera that you expect in a mid to high end device.
Anyway, point is, they very different in terms of cost, and aimed at different market segments.
And it's not only TMUS that's getting the HTC; but the Euro markets too (and the Sidekick, interestingly).
MadMonkeyBoy has these things on sale (pre-order) right now. I've ordered one - not sure yet if we'll get it next week or next month, because his supplier is being a bit cagey. However he's doing a great job keeping us updated daily, and offering refunds if the suspense is too much for us (buyers).
I have my fingers crossed!

What a waste of a good phone! T-Mobile USA's web speeds are way slower then Sprint's and Verizon's CDMA EV-DO network speeds. Their GSM/EDGE does not penetrate well into buildings, or as far as CDMA signals. T-Mobile's PDA data network fees are higher then Sprint's $10 a month for Unlimited access. T-Mobile is just not up to par with the big boys on their PDA offerings. They should sit it out and just wait to die. Or be bought out. Even Cingular's GSM network speeds are faster. H@ll, even small carriers have better speeds then T-Mobile!
T-Mobile has edge, they just need to set up the plans. I have been hearing from our TR that they are going to add edge to gprs plans ($20/mo). I say that should be up by the end of this month (fingers crossed). The last/furure phones have has edge on them that have been released with t-mobile (Nokia 3220, Nokia 6101, and the Moto V360)
