How-to: download new tracks to your PSP via WiFi
This could come in handy to swap out some new tunes on the go. The how-to essentially involves a shareware
application called Dot Tunes to serve your iTunes library over the web. The interface includes a method for downloading
new tracks, so you can suck down new tunes to your PSP from the local wifi coffee shop or wherever.
[Thanks, Mark]

Do we need firmware 2.0 for this? or can it be done on a homebrew browser?
Monty @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
2.0 firmware only.
Ah, yes -- you want it now, don't you? You can't resist the temptation of the Dark Side.

If there was just a hard drive in this "media-playing" wondermachine, we wouldn't need such tricks.

So i guess, Bigger Memory?
ok, see yah going to get my 1 gigger ............

Has anyone released a passive wifi sniffer for the PSP yet? That'd be a major reason for me to get one. Instead of bringing my PowerBook on a wardrive I could bring my PSP.

the alternative for us non-Mac transformed would be ORB?!
hi @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
is the ds going to get a browser?
White Rose Duelist @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
Possibly. But the DS is a game system, and Nintendo and third-party manufacturers are treating it as such. The PSP can do everything but.

I have tried to make this trick work and have been unsuccessful. I have 2.0, I've downloaded DOT-TUNES, I've published my ITunes to create a web page. I've opened the port to allow access, and the PSP browser will STILL not open the webpage to access my songs.
I would love to hear feedback from people who have actually succeeded in making this work

Just another tool for mass piracy.
Simon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
Has anyone come across anything similar to this for Windows? I've given ORB a try, but I'm not sure if PSP will support the .asx steaming filetype that it uses.
Benson Leung @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
Sweet... And no, it doesn't need to be totally for mass piracy you know... It's great for podcasts for example, to your PSP. Great idea.
But yeah... now people can just download stuff from your iTunes as they please. But the good news is that there's probably nothing that Apple can do to break this in subsequent versions of iTunes. All of the pieces were there previously... the free web server in Mac OS X, the XML (i assume) library file that is generated by iTunes... this just provides a web interface for that.
Bryce @ Dec 19th 2005 1:25AM
It's not another tool for mass piracy, just for my own use, and my close friends (formly called schoolyard piracy). I can definately live with that.
