Alan Parekh's hard drive clock
It's a little hard to tell precisely what's going on here without checking out
the video, but we have to just up
front say that Alan Parekh's hard drive clock is one of the most messed-up-cool things we've seen 'round these parts in
a while. If you want to make a sweet clock out of an an old drive that still spins, and have some skills and a little
bit (a lot) of free time, prepare yourself to be the owner of your very own analog-digital/analogue digital
timepiece.
[Thanks, Mark]

Cool idea. Pity it's loud and only works in the dark.

So... as far as I can tell it flashes the leds when the piece of tape is over the correct location... pretty impressive timing.
DarkFader @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
It would've been nicer if the LEDs were actually placed on the platter, but I don't know if the platter is conductive by itself for the head let power through. Another option is to stick some contacts between the rings that are on the motor cylinder.

Holy christ that's cool
