GM signs up for Sharp's dual-view LCD
Sharp just announced their very first customer for those dual view LCD screens they announced back in July that are
capable of simultaneously display completely different images when viewed from different angles: General Motors, which
is going to start testing them in Europe on Opel's Vectra Caravan car. We figured most people would want a dual-view
LCD so they could play games or check out porn while everyone else thinks they're working on spreadsheets or whatever,
but GM's going to use the dual-view LCDs so that the driver can keep an eye on the car's GPS navigation system while
everyone else can watch DVDs or fiddle with the car stereo. Aw, screw it, it's so you can secretly watch porn while
you're driving.

Could help end family room disputes. One can watch football vs. Home & Garden. Or the kids can watch cartoons or play video games while the grown ups watch the news. Or hell, kids play the G-rated games and the parents play the adult games. Right now I have to use dual screens and wireless headphones for this.

This technology can be used to make computer apps seem 3d. eg, turn your head to the right, and the image perspective changes.

this stuff sounds neat and all, but i wouldn't want to have to watch the screen at an angle.

seems like a hassle

This sounds cool and all, but what about the sound?
Google Nazi @ Dec 19th 2005 12:19AM
If one is GPS and the other is a movie then the movie would be the only one that needs sound since with GPS you can just take a look unless you love to hear that robotic female voice. Sounds like a nice idea and can't wait to see it in action :)

That's really cool. Hell, dual monitors could be accomplished with a mirror (as shown above i guess)

This could also appease the law regarding drivers not being distracted by video while the vehicle is moving. Just blank out their section and let the rest of the vehicle be entertained.
