Game Boy Micro revealed
PC Watch has gotten their hands on a Game Boy Micro, which is scheduled to be released in the US on September 19th for $99 (but came out today in Japan). The first thing they did? Blow it up, of course. They've posted their dissection of the device, and while it doesn't offer too many surprises (not that we know what to look for), it features a number of improvements versus the Gameboy Advance SP. They mention that while at first glance the Gameboy Micro appears to just be a new form factor of the SP, it is in fact quite different under the hood. They say how Nintendo has paid attention to detail in many of the aspects of the device's construction, such as its overall solid structure, detailed electrical work, and small touches such as stoppers that prevent screws from becoming loose. Unfortunately it's too late to add these stoppers to Miyamoto's screws.

I could have swore from some of the pictures I saw, that the buttons were backlit. Anyone else think that? Looking at the disassembled micro, I don't see how that's possible. I guess there's no reason for this since your cramped thumbs will be covering them. Oh well...

Is the Play-Yan getting released in the US at the same time as the Micro?

Ouch, low-blow at Miyamoto. He's an artist(what he went to school for). They're all kooky. Look at Van Gogh, Tim Burton, my girlfriend... Artists are naturally... different. That's how they work.

The GB Micro looks..... Ugly?
Err0r @ Dec 19th 2005 2:28AM
This would be soo cool. Especially since the small size.
Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 2:28AM
I wish more game designers had the same screws loose as Miyamoto.
PickyPants @ Dec 19th 2005 2:28AM
Seriously.
I don't care if Miyamoto douses himself in the blood of children and swims across the pacific, as long as he keeps Nintendo innovative.

#1 and #3- The start and select buttons do glow-
From Wired.com
"It is a bit difficult to reach down and hit the Select and Start buttons, which sit just underneath the screen. These buttons, in a stylish twist, double as the system's power and charge indicators -- the words "Select" and "Start" glow a cool blue when the system is powered on and red when the battery runs low."

"such as its overall solid structure"
Awesome. The demo ones had loose buttons, but I guess they fixed that. That would have been my only deterrent from buying one. They play MP3s, right?

Ummm Miyamato is to electronic entertainment as Shakespeare is to English literature.

If I couldn't have bought a DS, then I'd buy this sucker. :|
