The 8 megapixel Ricoh Caplio GR
We're not sure if it's just based on or adapted from their GR series 35mm cameras, but Ricoh's got yet another new
Caplio on the way, the GR digital. It shoots
8 megapixel shots in RAW or JPEG while managing to be less than an inch thick, has a 2.5-inch screen, and will be
available in Europe next month for £399.99 (about $730). As per usual with these guys: yum.

Gutsy move from RICOH. A fixed-focal-distance (no zoom) camera -- and a fairly expensive one at that will tend to attract a very specific slice of the amateur market. Don't get me wrong -- I am firmly in that slice. If I only had another $800 to spend on another camera....
People were hoping for an APS-C sized sensor. No dice. Seems like a decent choice for street shooting, but the market of people who want to spend $700 on a fixed focal length camera would generally like depth-of-field options.
I have a film-based GR1. It was quite famous at one time for the optics and diminutive size.

I love my GR1, but $700 does seem a bit much.
Are Ricoh's typically good cameras? I was shopping around and saw a few that looked interesting, but haven't seen any good critical reviews for them.
