The Nokia 6630 Music Edition
It hasn't been but a couple of weeks since Motorola and Apple first introduced the ROKR E1, but Nokia, which has been releasing cellphones which can play MP3s and AACs for, uh, years now, obviously isn't going to let Moto (and Sony Ericsson) hog the spotlight, and so is reintroducing and repackaging their 3G 6630 cameraphone as the Nokia 6630 Music Edition. There doesn't appear to be anything particularly new and different about the Music Edition of the 6630 (you still have to use an adapter if you want to listen with 3.5mm headphones, for instance), but the phone will ship with a 256MB RS-MMC memory card, a smattering of new ringtones, and come in the slightly more rockin' color of "Rustic Red". Should be available in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East later this month.

Hmmm... what adaptors are included in the package and are they also available separately so I can add them to my own "old" 6630?
Gil, the 3.5mm headphone adapter is available separately, I bought one for my Nokia 6681 and paid 15 euros for it. Sound quality with even decent headphones is really good compared to the crappy ones that come with Nokia's phones.
Yes, you can buy the headphone adapter, larger Multimedia card and MMC reader separately.
I wonder why they chose to send this out on the 6630, as opposed to the 6680 and its variants. Not only do the 68xx series give Nokia direct access to 3G and non-3G markets alike, but the display is a little better for watching those cool music videos
Does it still have a camera or did the just make it strictly music?
I wonder if the speaker quality is anygood. Hope someone can answer that lol. But the phone overall dones't look as apealing compared to the ROKR E1, except that the ROKR caps ur song limit for itunes.
and that's all it has extra? (headphones, large MMC and reader)
Aaron: the phone is the same. It's just a different bundle
audio quality on nokia phones is exceptional -- it's very, very surprising. the improvement in sound over my flash player is in-your-face noticeable. when i got the 3.5 adapter for my 6230, i was hoping the sound would be decent enough for FM radio ... it really knocked my socks off. i even plugged in my sennheiser 580's, and the nokia drove them better than my computer does.
no idea what's inside those phones that they're so strong with audio, but the bottom line is that with an upgraded card, they are fantastic mp3 players.
the tricky part? being lucky enough to find an MMC card that works with your firmware. and if u don't have a card reader, uploading songs via bluetooth produces a sensation similar to dying.
it looks fabulous!
ugly
And it comes with a lighter!
Why not make the adapter a remote with a clip rather than a big square bit of plastic which will hang and get caught everytime you take it out your pocket to change tracks - things like that made me go right off Nokia!
onuo
Check out the screen, the music player looks new.
Well i´ve discovered that i have a 6630 music edition. I found the mp3 player app for my 6630 and i bought the headphone adapter, i also have a 512 MMC Mobile Kingston. Now i check engadget.com and i see this new 6630 version. Music Edition.
The MP3 app is really good, and you can also use it with itunes, because it can read m4a files.
Awwwww, he thinks he's ROKR.
Hmmm very nice .. anyone knows if its available in India ? I want to buy 6630 and would be better if I have this ... ( Atleast 256 MB MMC & a Card reader) and also this will support 1 GB RS MMC's now...
is it released or available in India ??
I LOVE MY 6630! I haven't seen anything like it in some stores here in Manila.'will definitely check it out here.... dont forget to install anti-virus apps in your 6630.
Mabuhay!!!
Would this (6630 Music Edition) also be available in Asia? From what I've known, it'd only be available in Europe and Africa. Haven't you guys encountered bugs with your 6630?
Thanks.
