NEC's L1 / E949 vs. the Motorola RAZR V3

Remember how we did that RAZR vs. Blade post a while back, and it was like, eh, Blade kinda wins. Well, funny thing—that NEC L1 (aka the E949) has been spotted next to the now infamous Moto phone, and it seems pretty freaking skinny, too. Yes, it looks as though the teacher has become the student. And apparently those lucky Brits are might even be likely enough to get this one towards the end of the year.
If only they improved the keypad...would be the razr killer.

and then of course, no one makes any accessories for it...sigh.
To be a razr killer it just needs to have a somewhat -that is SOMEWHAT - logical and capable interface.

The NEC1 is a RAZR COPYCAT but definately not a killer.
The problem with the RAZR is that its a damn old phone. I think its been out nearly 3 years in fact. The features list is lacking when compared to newer cellphones and it is being sold a dime a dozen.
However, I like the RAZR's higher production values. A chemically etched keypad which is silver anodized? Damn it looks hot. And the Bluetooth feature, 22K speaker and VGA camera make for a decent package. If the camera was a megapixel or 2 that would sweeten the deal.

The RAZR may be three years old, but it still looks better than NEC. Can't beat the laser etched keypad.

RAZR does have video recording. All you need is a firmware update. So according to your statement, the RAZR doesn't suck.
I've always used Motorola phones and I love them, the audio quality is always suberb and the phones are just for talking !
yeah...it's a shame about moto's absolutely terrible UI.
The SE interface beats the shit out of it and if you can get used to it Symbian beats the hell out of SE.

Why didn't they use a bigger screen with all that extra space up their?
This phone is UGLY
But that etched keyboard is soooooooo cheap feeling especially with the raised rubber between the keys.

The RAZR first became available in europe and asia almost exactly a year ago. Second week of October, to be exact.
I bought the RAZR when it first came out in the United Kingdom and my 12 month contract is JUST ABOUT to expire. So I'd say its been out around a year.
Amused to see complaints about the Motorola interface in a comparison with NEC! I have used almost every brand of mobile phone and the most recent NEC interface is the worst without a doubt. You never know - NEC's user interface team might have been busy in the meantime and fixed it for the L1!
I saw this on a website I was reading and thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I currently live in hong kong where this phone is available. I must say that I have played around with it at a local electronics store and it is quite nice. Small screen and the keypad feels cheap but the UI is outstanding and it truly is a thin phone and not as wide as the RAZR. The RAZR is like a Monet painting ...looks good from far..but far from good.
I have had the RAZR2 on my desk for the last month, it feels cheap and plasticky on the build and software is a disaster right now.
It will sell by the bucket load!
Anyone know if the NEC is available as triband GSM? It looks nice and the UI cannot possibly be any worse than Motorola (then the universe would implode).

I bought the Razr on eBay, used it for one day and promptly auctioned it for a tidy profit of $5.00. It's the coolest looking phone in the world but the what good is looking cool w/o being useful - oh and am I the only one who had terrible reception on that thing? I now have a SE Z800 and love it; absolutely love it... I'll take substance over style any day.

i just bought the nec.to be honnest compare to the rzr(my brother's one)the L1 look really smart.
good point:look,size,features,extremely fast interface(the moto's interface is a fu...g dinosaure!!).bad point:the battery is a joke!!(don't know about the moto's one)
