Palm TX, new LiveDrive, and Z22 en route?
The translation is a bit rough, but Mobile-Review has it on authority that the Palm TX, a new LifeDrive, and a new Zire (the Z22) are due for announcement in October. According to them, the TX will stand downwind from the flagship Tungsten T5, featuring only a 312MHz processor and 128MB of flash memory, but it will indeed have Bluetooth and WiFi—which more or less jibes with what we had on the topic before, though their quoted price of $450 doesn't sound quite right. Apparently the Z22 will sport specs similar to the Z31, including a 200MHz processor and 160 x 160 color screen for about $130 US. Oh yeah, and the LifeDrive will have a version bundled with Philips earphones, Pocket DVD Studio Lite, and MM Player on sale this holiday season. Well, alright then.
[Thanks, Daniel]

What we want is a cellphone built into the LifeDrive.

#4, why does everything have to have a cellphone built into it? can't we have at least one PDA that doesn't have a phone? Hellphones suck bigtime.

Hey guys, i'm looking for a PDA with a really good GPS capability. size is not a big issue as long as it has a good UI and decent capabilities. all i want is something that i can take to school alongside my laptop and then plug into my car and get a map to the nearest something or other. any suggestions?

Gleb,
I use an axim x50v with iGuidance software for gps in my car.. excellent with the vga screen and i use one of those holders that's suction attached to the windshield.. it's perfect for me since i do real estate appraisals and drive to a lot of places that i've never been too before :)

What I want is the ability to use a tablet pc as a cell phone. Is there someway this can be done. I want to be able to receive and send voice conversations over a pc. I really need the tablet, and I would like to avoid carrying two things if one will do.

At first I thought the original Lifedrive was a killer, but once I got ahold of one I found it was just too big. The thin form factor for the other palm products is reasonable, but they don't have the memory. I'm not sure why everyone wants to put Palm on the deathwatch list. They have tons of apps and uses. If you own a bunch of gadgets and you're taking a break consider how many times you pick up your a) phone, b) handheld gaming device, c) palm, or d) handheld video device..ok..you can include an mp3 player, but I go w/ those are integrated to most things.
I pick up my palm a lot. Yes, people read on those things. I'd like to see the new lifedrive specs because, while #7 they may seem dated I don't think they are 2 years old and there's potential here.
Give me a thinner lifedrive with a higher resolution screen that solves my browsing AND video resolution. I would pick the palm as a handheld video player (NOT in the current PALM w/ video as an afterthought implementation) as the device of choice for: books, music, video, applications, and browsing over all the current handheld convergence devices FWIW I'd give it some points for photo integration as well, BUT appwise I can't see it as a gaming device.
Still it has the potential to slash into the mp3 player, killoff the other handheld video player, and timeshare w/ the handheld gaming system. It's not getting away w/ the phone, but I can carry two things and not be overly bothered..ok maybe a couple of phones but we all have to deal w/ that kind of thing.

Palm need a 'Palm nano'.
Something that small with the Z22 functionality and a 2-4GB MP3 player built in, possibly an SD slot for wifi and they'd fly. Simple as a PalmVx but with style.
Leave the larger form factor for the geeks that want gps and the ability to write Word documents with Grafitti.

My God, someone has actually used the correct word "jibe" instead of "jive". I believe this is a first on the internets. Someone record the date.

Anything else on the 'new' LifeDrive?
With the HD spin up delay and slow file moving I was thinking of doing a T|X with a big SD card. Of course, that way I'm doing my part in keeping Palm in business by buying one more device to fix an issue with a previous device.

i'd like a cell phone (WITH iTunes mind you) integrated into my skull

I love the Lifedrive, I haven't ran into much trouble with it at least... There is the video playback issue... using TCPMP doesn't support my .rm files...
bundling headphones entertainment disk and software... gosh how much would that beast cost?
i bought my for 418, i could use the savings to buy all that and more..
