NEO-MS converter allows PSP to read Compact Flash
Well, this does put a real cramp in that whole "portable" style thang, but if you've got a big stash of CF cards and
don't fancy being fleeced even further by Sony's Memory Stick Duo format cards, at least you've got options. The NEO-MS
converter pops in to the PSP's Memory Stick Dup slot
and allows Compact Flash cards to be read. It's at the working prototype stage and is apparently 95% complete — with
the remaining 5% presumably to cover this unit's extreme nekkidness.

WHOA.
its so compact it fits on my backpack!
I don't mind that it's so big... if they made it so I could either attach it to the back of the PSP or lengthen the cable so I could leave it in my bag while I'm playing it on the train, I'd buy one.
Especially because those pricks at Sony fleece me for their cards.
I have a 1 gig MSPD that I paid way too much for. I'd love it if I could stick a 2 gb CF card and use that instead.
(Sure would make playing those 1 gb+ iso's a lot easier!)
I guess that means you could hook a hard drive up to this thing at some point.
I hope they will also make an adapter for external hard drives soon for those of us who want to lug around more than just 6GB...what's with all those music, movies, homebrew, isos, etc. ;)
Now can we get one that goes SD to CF? Seriously, folks, it's ridiculous that it takes the PSP to get something like this made when it shoulda been a loooong time ago!
I wonder.. does this support microdrives?
Everyone I know who bought a PSP (about 6 people) says it is collecting dust now.
Yeah, it does support microdrives, and if they can make it so it snaps on to the back of the PSP like Richard said, that would be sweet. I wonder how much its gonna cost?
I personally would like to see this type of thing in a base that you 'dock' the PSP into. I would also like it to eventually support a laptop or mini hard drive. Having it in a base would allow for a large capacity battery (for the hard drive and PSP). That would be Ideal for those long flights or train trips. Imagine what you could do with 20 GB.
#6 - Dale:
No one I know (including myself) is collecting dust on their PSP. Of course, we're in a bit of a games drought right now, as most developers are releasing games in November intime for the Xmas rush. Many people have bought all the good games already, finished them, and are waiting for new ones.

dude... you've got impulsive friends! think before you buy!
ontopic: Nice to see its almost ready! whohoo!
myself and two of my friends, use our psps as paper weights
This is a better class of hacks.
Just add a FPGA on the side of the CF and let some bright hacker figure out how to connect to some memory lines, I/O, and interupts and you got a nice portable FPGA development system. Just thinking out of the box.
BTW, Anybody know if the PSP can be booted off a memorystix (yet)?
.drt
This is a great idea, but i'm with some of the case comments here. If they can take something like a small USB CF reader and find a way to tap into the MSD slot (via cable), this could work. Attaching it easily and comfortably to the PSP would be nice, too.
Great! .. but I hope they make it so I can attach it behind the playgear and not the PSP. The PSP needs the protection in addition to the space.
I have followed the trials of this unit at ps2dev forums.. great to see they managed to overcome the problems with Sony's special MS thingies.
Laptop hdds would be out of the question, think of the power they need, you would need a huge battery pack!
Yes but an iPod would be perfect with its self contained battery and all :).
On larger versions of the image, you can see that there are already solder-points for a full-size MemoryStick slot, an SD slot, and two USB ports.
Its a hell of a lot more portable than Metal Gear Acid 2's eye attachment and atleast serves a purpose.
Looks like they could chop off a lot of green board there to make this thing smaller. They could even make it so that you can clip it to the back of the PSP.
Seems interesting, though I wonder how much it'll cost and if it'll really be worth it.
Then again, I suppose it's better than paying hundreds of dollars of a single gig or 2 gig memory stick :P
I'd be willing to hack apart my psp to remove the useless UMD drive if I can permanently mount a 6gb CF card inside instead. I'd also do an internal wiring mount to make it nice and slick.
MaxSMoke smoketh the cock.
That is much too nicly done to be a prototype, The more I look at it the more it seems like a modified memory card adapter. It even has a dc adapter port on it
They need to make a PSP replacment UMD cover that includes a Compact Flash attachment on the top so it could sorta work like a Gameboy, all wires would be internal too.

Hey all, this thing is long finished by now, they have 2 versions, 1 that supports cf only and one that supports cf, sd and full sized sony stik things as well as the produo ones. theres only 5 difference in price, and they both attach perfectly onto the umd cover, its a square shape and attaches by velcro, its very seamless and comes in black or clear. You can buy it for 50 free delivery off lik-sang i found it yesterday, use this link

email me if ya need more info on the thing and if someone gets it tell me how its turned out, im not settling for anything other than 20GB or 40GB on a portable hard drive, ive found one (available in 20 or 40GB) that will consume little power and is very small on archos's website, its smaller than the umd cover so would fit perfect n all, the psp lacks drivers for it or the ability to recognise mass storage devices... All we need is some hacker to make something for the psp so it can recognise mass storage devices and to connect the thing to the magicgate entrance for the sony cards. This Neo company could do it easily im sure.
