EchoStar's PocketDISH rebadged Archos devices
Apparently one of the privs you reserve when you sink ten
million into some company is the ability to slap your name on the other guys' products. Doesn't really look like
EchoStar's PocketDISH devices differ much
(or at all) from their Archos brethren (especially not since we already knew the
AV700 was thusly on its way), but as soon as we have more
details on the exact nature of their rebadges, we'll be sure to holla back.

Will it be able to hook up to Dish DVRs to transfer shows to it? That would be the smart thing to do.
Haha...with Nagra2 hack on the horizon, whohoo now I can have pr0n togo.
Oh yeah... that's a roll of quarters in my pocket.
Here are what appear to be legit numbers on the three models: http://www.satelliteone.com/dish/store/pocketdish.html
A bit pricey if you ask me. I can get a HD receiver for that. But, if it can be hacked...
.
Just picked up a Gmini 402; former 3G iPOD owner. The Archos certainly has more features. Been ripping movies to load on it. I do wish it had a click wheel though.

Gmini™ 402 Camcorder just added to home page at Archos.com. I just rec'd my av500 and it is great. Size, weight, picture. I'm glad I cancelled my Zen Vision order!
In response to the first comment: From Echostar's website- "PocketDISH provides customers using select DISH Network DVRs the
unique ability to quickly transfer and take their favorite DISH Network programming with them to view on the go."
This is an iPod video killer. Who wants to pay for up to 5 shows (ABC & Disney) when you can get hundreds of channels worth for free? (after you pay your satellite bill). Smart, very smart.
how is this an iPod killer?? the video function on the iPod is a bonus and not the main fucntion. This serves a totally different function as it hooks up directly to you cable box! it;s looks great @ what it does and the 7" inch screen looks stunning, but to proclaim a dedicated video player will bring a death to an almost cultural icon is somewhat silly @ the very least. The iPod still does one thing very, PLAY MUSIC!
What are the "selected" Dish receivers? I have a PVR921, is that compatible or not? Also, does it pull in HD shows that were recorded? There's very little info anywhere on this device, including the PDF files on the Dish site. Any reports back from the street on picture quality, does it have any jitters on playback, etc.
Is anyone selling the PocketDish on-line? The Phx area retailers do not yet have it in stock and cannot provide an ETA.
I just found out from Dish that PocketDish only works with the 942 receiver (which they would happily sell me for $900). I've been through the 84 owner's manual on the PocketDish and it never indicates it is limited to the 942. I just thought I'd pass this on so those of you who don't own the 942 and are unwilling to upgrade don't waste your time with the PocketDish.
JGiel - Thanks for the info! I can't imagine why this isn't even mentioned on the Dish Website! How many people are going to waste time and effort into looking into this thing when it's not even an option for 90% of the Dish population... |-(

They're saying that the quality of video playback will be comparable to the original. You can play content from the pocket dish on any TV, but you can't transfer content to another DVR. I think you need a Dish DVR to transfer to the pocketdish, there is a pocketdish interface program on the Dish DVR. HDTV isn't supported by pocket dish.
Go to www.pocketvideo.info to talk about this some more.
