Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U reviewed
It may not be perfect, but Sharp's "world's largest LCD" 45-inch Aquos LC-45GX6U was good enough for PC Magazine to give it four stars and an Editor's Choice ranking. The reviewer found that the display had "impressive resolution in a user-friendly design" and crowned it "the best-performing big-screen LCD HDTV you can purchase today." The LC-45GX6U is a 1080p set, with inputs for DVI, HDMI and Firewire, HD tuner, a PC Card slot, an 800:1 contrast ratio and a street price of about $4,000—totally doable.

That's not a PC card slot, it's a 'Cable Card' slot.
It does have a PC card slot (as well as a cable card slot). It allows you to record and view still images and video onto a PC card or other cards via a PC card adapter. Offical URL here: http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,1412,00.html
Yup - it does have a PC card slot.
This tv treats me very very well. highly recommended.
I didn't know about the lack of 1080p via HDMI thought :-
guess i'll be using component for next gen dvds.
I suppose this is okay, but I paid $1,499 for the Westinghouse 37" LVM-37W1 with 1080p and dual dvi/hdcp (including native 1080p input). $2,500 seems like a lot of money for 5 extra inches and a few other marginally useful features.
"$2,500 seems like a lot of money for 5 extra inches and a few other marginally useful features."
You mean features like "the color black"?
I own the Westy. It makes sense in the bang-for-buck department, but the PQ of the Sharp is much, much better.
If Sharp had a 45"+ LCD under $5k street that didn't need any use-a-DVI-switcher-and-pray-you-sync 1080p nuttiness, I'd have gotten it instantly. However, at the time I was buying, the external-box 6XU was a bit hard to come by, so I figured I'd get the Westy now and use it as a big-ass monitor for the computer when I replace it in a couple years.
