Nextlink updates Bluespoon with AX2
If you liked the size of the Nextlink's Bluespoon AX headset, but
didn't really care for its performance, you'll be pleased to know the company has updated it, sticking with the
form-factor (which, of course, is no longer the world's — or
even Nextlink's — smallest) but upping the specs to
Bluetooth 1.2, with range bumped up to a max of about 50 feet and battery life pushed to 8 hours. Pocketnow checked it
out, and found that the improved range and battery life made it a worthy upgrade, but also pointed out that the lack of
any kind of digital noise reduction circuitry makes it a little hard to use in noisy environments. And, of course, now
that Nextlink's got the even smaller 5G out, why go back to this mammoth (other than the price, of course, which is
about $70, compared to close to $400 for the 5G)?

Surprise blow with the last line, ugh, was actually interested too...

But did they improve build quality? The plastic on the original was brittle and easily broken. I'm a big fan of Nextlink. Customer service is EXCELLENT, but I think i'll be using something else.

James... One of the first runs of plastic was mixed wrong. When mine cracked, I emailed them and they happily replaced it (tossing in some extra earsprings and a second battery, too).
As far as the original goes, my only complaint these days other than a little static if I have the phone in my back pocket is that the part of earsprings attached to the headset tends to get loose after awhile. Not enough to fall out of my ear, but enough that if I grab the headset to take it off, the earspring sometimes stays behind.

g5 or 5g?
Adamz @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
Yes, the build quality is good. It's got a tighter fit with the plastic. We accidentally dropped it down some brick stairs.. brushed off the dirt, and not a scratch.
And yeah, it's the 5G you're thinking of that's much smaller. And it's Bluetooth 1.2 not 1.5, but minor typo.

Anyone know of any BT 2.0 Headsets besides the HBH-610? Or any 2.0 phones besides the W800, K750, or Z520?
902SH guy @ Dec 19th 2005 1:37AM
I bought the AX. I loved the form factor, but couldn't handle the static, so I took it back. Now I am sticking with my old SE HBH-602 and waiting for HBH-610 to arrive. But if they fix the noise issue with the AX2, it would be seriously tempting to go Bluespoon again.

Just so you know, Engadget - a couple of corrections...
...it's BT 1.2, not 1.5.
...and it's the 5G, not the G5.
:)

Anybody know if this will work with the Samsung A900? I've read the A900 has BT compatibility issues.
