Apple - iTunes + iPod Video?
We've been obsessively following every twist and turn when it comes to next week's potential announcement of a
video iPod, so what's a little more obsession,
right? The meaning of this is absolutely subject to interpretation, but a couple of readers have noticed that if you do
a Google site search on Apple.com for "iPod video", that the first result is a page entitled "Apple - iTunes + iPod
Video". The page isn't live anymore, but the Google cache is still available and it lists a couple of dead links to
video downloads. Could be more evidence of a video iPod, but then again this could have just been a page with a couple
of videos about the non-video iPod.
[Thanks, Scott & Sean]
Update: Ok, so maybe this isn't precisely what we thought. Apparently the page is still live in some parts of the world as, and a peek at the source revealed, the links followed through to a file called wwdc2004/wwdc_ipod+itunes_[size].mov, which would appear more to refer to a video whose subject matter is principally the iPod and iTunes. Curiouser and curiouser.

In the words of Freud "OMGZZZZZORZ"
It's pretty obvious they're talking about the video which the site links to three times that advertise iTunes and iPod.
Um... check the date
This is G o o g l e's cache of http://www.apple.com/itunes/video/ as retrieved on Nov 28, 2004 02:03:27 GMT.
Probably just a video of iTunes + iPod, not anything to do with any so called iPod Video
It looks to me like their standard layout for product views, videos, etc. I bet it's just a page that used to display a video about iPods and iTunes. Also, the Google cache has a date for the page of "Nov 28, 2004" so it's nothing new to the Apple site.
I'm more likely to believe that this page is a remnant of when itunes was being touted as a way to buy songs to put on your ipod.
They did have itunes + ipod commercial videos that they made promoting this very fact.
I beleive this is a apple in house test page and ipod video is still in its final testing phases and will be released before x-mas not next week, and will someone tell this little bird to leave me alone dammit..!!

yo you engadget guys are like the nice guy that becomes friends with the hot girl, but kinda starts getting a little too personal and hangs around a bit more than is welcome, and she kinda tells you politely to leave her alone, but that just drives you more crazed with desire, so you start going through her trash, piecing together the life which she has locked u out of.
you guys are totally stalking apple. just sayin.
If that were the case, then why would apple remove the page? Also, on an Apple side note, and maybe it was just me, but for about 5 minutes today, any sub page of apple dot com was appearing as a advertisement for lop.com with a link to the famous adware app. I do believe that apple.com was hacked this evening. Did anyone else get this?
It's almost definitely just a video on iTunes and the iPod. If it were the rumored video iPod, it'd likely be "iPod video". Also, the cache date is a big clue.
It's definitely not refering to the iPod video. Firstly, the page has been non-existant for over a year now. Look here for an archive of the video: http://web.archive.org/web/20041009204318/www.apple.com/itunes/video/240.html.
The 23MB video on the site happens to be the same size as an Apple ad for iTunes + the iPods, and AirTunes that they had for download a while back. The ad had Steriogram's 'Walkie Talkie Man' playing throughout it, and was 2mins 58sec in length.
I'm pretty sure this is what the page was about.
Seriously, if Apple had put a page up accidentally, what are the odds that Google would have had time to index and cache it before Apple realised the mistake and ripped it down again? It's just common sense...
no worries MOGua, they only own the rights of releasing the 'blogs' out. No G4 buying TechTV horror here, phew.
Yeah, search on Google for "Apple - iTunes + iPod Video". Poke around enough and you'll eventually see that this page went live on Apple.com around July 1, 2004 and hosted the "Walkie Talkie Man" video. No dice, but nice try.
This is getting quite boring now
whoa come on, not even close. I'm telling you, it's much more likely going to be an itunes movie store or something annoucing movie dl's than a video ipod.
There will be no iPod Video. GET OVER IT - or go work for Al Qaeda (see my blog).
Interesting yes - but nothing new.
However, if we go to http://www.apple.com/movies/ there's a 403 error instead of the usual "Not Found" page that apple have. I'll bet ya 20c that /movies/ will go live on october 12th.
Posts 9 and 10 are right. Its was a real page, but an old cached page about videos of iPod + iTunes.
Remember also that its iPod video (lowercase v) and not iPod Video. Apple has stuck with lowercases when tacking on words to "iPod." Nano, mini, photo -they're all lowercase.
#14, these constant shameless blog plugs are starting to sicken me... people should really find better ways to get people to read their blogs.
Is it me or could it be commercials/videos of iTunes+iPod? Because, Apple experts, you would know that Apple likes to include it's own shameless commercials on it's own website for its products.
It's not read as: "iTunes" + "iPod Video."
It's: "iTunes + iPod" Video
Not that you don't already know that.
The video that was originally posted on this page was for one of the original silhouette iPod ads. This was the first one that said that it was available for Mac or Windows. It featured a song called "Walkie Talkie Man".
It has absolutely nothing to do with any new iPod, unless you are still surprised that iPods work with Windows.
Here's one of the video pages that it linked to:
http://web.archive.org/web/20041009205200/www.apple.com/itunes/video/480.html
I'd like to pint your attention to: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.apple.com/itunes/video/
As you can see, the same site we get with the google search is listed on the archive, for 2004. Therefore this is a video for the iTunes+iPod, not a iPod video.
RedStarr:
I can't tell if you're being ironic or if you seriously believe what you just said.
Apple's marketing has *always* said "iTunes + iPod". Now here we have a page that is to a page under the tab of "iTunes + iPod" and obviously at one point had a couple of QuickTime videos on it (that's what those broken images link to). Under those videos, we have a caption that says "iTunes + iPod Video".
All from 2004, mind you, which is also listed as the copyright date in addition to being Google's cache date.
I think it's pretty freakin' clear that this was just a page of videos for the iPod + iTunes.
End o' story.
I think we should just end this now. It's obviously coming out, my grand-mother told me about this today on the phone... If she knew, it's obviously true!
la la la lame
redstar, (#21) you are dumb. look at the bottom of the page. it's copyrighted 2004. that's an old cache of an old page that unfortunately put two words together that now seem to have a different meaning. get over it.
i want to know whos screenshot that is,
seems like windows firefox with a safari theme . . .
someone let him know a mac mini goes as cheap as $400
(refurbished from apple)
stop fakin it and enjoy a real one ; )
