Gizmondo launch set for October 22
We have to admit that, over the past several decades we've been waiting for it, our enthusiasm for the
Gizmondo has seriously cooled. So
forgive us if we don't foam at the mouth over Tiger Telematics' announcement that the handheld gaming console will
finally be released in the U.S. on October 22. Sure, we'd still like to take it for a spin. But let's just say that the
launch is unlikely to result in PSP-style
pandemonium.

Hopefully it will have some GAMES or it may be a little too much like the PSP!
Woo, g1zm0nd0!!!1 Finally a decent handheld that can give the POP Station a run for its money.
This is a product that will see only one Xmas season before they throw in the towel.
Not since the release of Milli Vanilli's follow-up album has there been so much buzz for a product! I can't wait to NOT buy this!
Seriously, is anyone going to buy this thing?
I bet they are cashing-in on the fact that parents will accidentally buy this for their kids, thinking it's the PSP.
Fishes,
narco.
Crappy screen + High Price + No Game Support = Turd
Seriously, is there one appealing feature of this thing? No analog stick either!? WTF!? This thing is going to be like Vanilla Ice's first movie (Cool as Ice). In other words, it will bomb.
...another mark,
Dude, you'd be CRAZY NOT to not buy it this year!
It's the one hot toy that EVERYONE will be not buying come the holidays!
Release date: 22nd October
Bargain bin date: 23rd October
I hear their financial report for this year is worth reading too. Apparently their upper managers having been living the high life on their investors' funds.
These guys are trailblazers. They're opening up a whole new market: videogaming for senior citizens.
I hope the guy's at Tiger have their resume's polished up.
I think they're gonna need them very soon...
I'll buy it in a year or two. Great for open source, probably a good sized hacking community, and it and its peripherals will be dirt cheap eventually.
Even if this thing DOES get decent games, it won't have a chance against the name recognition of the Sony PSP. Too bad too because PSP has some of the worst games I've ever played on any console. Here's to hoping this Gizmondo will be sold on firesale after xmas and will be hacked to all hell!
Anyone who opposes nintendo in the handheld market ends up in the trash. We have seen this happen well too many times and the PSP is awkwardly standing in a weird position that is hard to describe. Seeing this handheld at engadget for a while now I can safely say that the PSP will be the best consumer choice over this.
Unless of course the gizmodo has a game lineup surpassing the DS and PSP together right? And i don't mean crappy 2bit games i really mean good games.
I'm living in Europe at the moment. Apparently the Gizmondo was released some time ago here, but going into a local EB and you would have a tough time finding any Gizmdo stuff. This thing is stillborn before it even gets near the US market.
"Anyone who opposes nintendo in the handheld market ends up in the trash."
"and the PSP is awkwardly standing in a weird position that is hard to describe."
i would describe that position as "opposing nintendo.. but not in the trash."
First off it is ugly, and don't tell me that doesn't matter. Even though it has all the features and stuff they didn't do enough advertising and they are not a well known company like sony. They can still get some sales in if they get it in the big name stores like wal-mart and best buy and if they undercut sony on price then I believe that they might have a chance. This looks like a $200 or less device so sell it like that and you will make the money back through sells of games and accessories.
I know I wont be buying one cuz I got a used PSP from a buddy for $150 :)
Cheers!
I couldn't see myself paying $150 when Fry's liquidated the Tapwave Zodiac, which they sent the remaining surplus back to the manufacturer. They expect to sell this thing for $400, and for $240 with ads? We'll see.
If it ran NES/SNES/Genesis/MAME full-speed with sound, I'd buy one. But only for emulation.
I just read an article at CNN about this thing. They don't sound enthusiastic about it at all. I, for one, will not be investing in this thing as it sounds pretty crappy.
