Put the ReadyWhenUR kettle on via SMS
Orange and PG Tips (they make tea, ok, Yanks?) have developed the Wallace and Gromit-inspired ReadyWhenUR kettle. That connection is a stretch, but hey, they drink tea and invent things, so we'll let it slide. No, it won't make you feel any less lonely, nor will it filter out the nasties, but you can put this kettle on by texting it the words "switch on" from your cellphone. Of course, you'll still have to drag your lazy ass over to fill it with water, and while you're there you could always turn it on… but what's the point in that!

I like tea.

does that mean you'd have to buy a sim for your kettle? i guess pre-pay ones are fairly cheap..

..or you could most probably spend LESS MONEY on one of those 60-second fast boil numbers.
Sure you'd have to wait for a WHOLE FREAKING MINUTE, which clearly this company thinks is outlandishly inconvienient.

Here is an idea... make the kettle wifi enabled, and add a connector so you can hook it up to the line going into the kitchen sink-- so when you turn it on it can get it's own water. Similar most fridges with ice makers.

I want a Video Recorder that accepts SMS to turn on. (And will text me back if I've already got something set to record). Anyone?
