Sony Vaio VGP-UHDM08 80GB external drive with crypto
Gotta love how the companies at the top of the hill get the luxury of re-releasing at their leisure the same
products other companies have been producing for years—but in extremely stylish packages—and then making some serious
bank. Ok, granted, we haven't seen an external drive with wireless crypto keys (lately), but Sony's finally got a
decent external 2.5-inch drive in their Vaio VGP-UHDM08, an 80GB USB 2.0 affair with built-in data encryption and
wireless keys to "unlock" the device so data can be read and written. Available now for $300 cash money.

does this work on a psp
"does this work on a psp"
In a word.. No.
There's no file manager.. How will data be transfered?
80 gigs for $300! What a deal!
or you could pay $67 for an 80 gig FANTOM
or you could pay $367 for a 400 gig Iomega
It's a toss up!
my 100gig seagate makes that look like crap
What a ripoff!!! I am SO getting one!!!
Does anyone know how much the enclosure alone costs? I wonder how much profit can Sony earn from each 1 of these. Probably a lot, no?
Do you know of any more cost-effective portable drives with included hardware keys for the encryption?
"What a ripoff!!! I am SO getting one!!!"
im guessing you have an ipod shuffle also ;)
Pity it's so expensive, that's the nicest looking external HDD I've seen.
No security, crack it open take the drive out and hook it up to a normal mini ide cable. LAME.. Buy a 1.8" drive buy an enclosure and you are all set.. Dont buy this.
holy shit that thing is sexy.
USB 2.0 is the sux.
Firewire?
6-Pin Firewire + Laptops = not many.
USB 2.0 is actually faster than Firewire.

One thing that I dont understand is when companies make such devices why dont they make em work with cameras and cell phones. You dont need mobile data just with computers.
Nope, I have a nano though. That is just hot though.
This may seem like a silly question, but on the sony website it says that it is windows compatible, does anyone know if it would work on the Mac as well? I don't see why not, but I have been wrong before...
Wow. Who cares if it's so expensive...remember what they said in those commercials:
"It's a Sony."
I'll stick with my $100 200GB drives...
