The Disney Princess Locket-Style Wearable Digital VGA Camera
Just in case you didn't get the royal memo, it was writ that all pretty, pretty princesses hereby reserve the right
to wear magical reverse-lockets that let them take pictures—and said magical lockets should have extremely
long names (Disney Princess Locket-Style Wearable
Digital VGA Camera, check!), and have crappy specs to make it affordable to the princess on a budget (VGA res, 8MB
memory, $30 pricetag, doublecheck!). Better save that allowance, little lady!

Why do you post this, Egadget???
Derek @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Huge and ugly? Check. Are we missing anything?
Justin @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
They post it because people like you can't spell the name of Engadget correctly, even though it is right on the screen. Learn to spell and then they might consider it.
Pal @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Princesses' sure get the crappy end of the deal nowadays.
Rudey @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Pink, cute, cheap and hackable. I think it's a great way to get a girl geek started...
Mike @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
I've always said the absolute worst thing you can do is give your daughter a digital camera
Anita @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Get one now everyone. All the cool kids are gonna have one by the end of the month =O
fierywater @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
looks like it's about the size of the average whale.
nice.
raindog @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
I'd rather buy a $70 3 megapixel camera with flash and LCD (from Sears or Ritz Camera... check Froogle), and spray paint the case day-glo pink.
sue @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
tiny, not huge. child locket sized in fact(!)
45 X 55 mm
(that's 1.5 x 2.2in)

Criticize it, but it's a smart move. I know my nieces really want a camera and if it's cheap and available in a Snow White theme... it's probably on the Christmas list.

I wouldn't be caught dead with one of these within arm's reach of my dead body.
Still, there are intangible benefits to having such a ridiculous camera. Your subjects won't be able to help but smile (or laugh), and I doubt it's going to get stolen any time soon.
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
I will be getting this for my daughter for Xmas.
Very Cool!
JJ @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Wow, you guys are idiots. They are for little girls for christ sake. I might pick one up for my little cuz's as well
cuby @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
if you put yourself into the mindset of an 11 year-old girl (which i can apparently do with disturbing accuracy), this is a badass little toy. i used to have a transformer that turned into a camera, i would have killed for it to actually be able to take pictures.
have you grizzled nerds lost your sense of wonder? too many hours playing those first-person murder-simulators, NATCH.
das chupa @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
That's a pretty frickin cool toy for a lil one. Man, we had crap toys when we were kids...cept for lawn darts. And, for 30 bucks, that isn't bad at all.
Still, can it run linux?
Pal @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
All my toy camera did was shoot water...
Coyote @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
man you hit something there cuby, when will mattel (or whoever owns the transformers now) get off their asses and make soundwave into a working mp3 player, and like you said the camera one that accually takes pictures. I mean Ive been holding up conveience stores with my old megatron for years and its not even a real gun (j/k :P)
Meredith @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Highly awesome. As a girl who grew up to be a girl geek, I can safely say this is a great gift for the female nerd-to-be. And Matt (#1) - it's a GADGET. You know? All those entries about Hello Kitty gadgets can't be wrong.
Meredith @ Dec 19th 2005 1:07AM
Oh, forgot to mention - the link to licensing.disney.com sadly does not work. Error 500 - sounds like somebody screwed up at Disney web services.

I bought this for my kids and let me tell you
that it is a pile of rubbish!!! My kids were so excited then 10 mins later they were in tears when they saw the very very very poor pictures. The quality is very bad. You also cannot take pictures inside unless you have a 1million candle light source !! Outside all you get is very blurry snaps.
