Think Secret thinks we'll see video iPod tomorrow
With all this hype, Apple better announce
something huge tomorrow, like a cure for cancer or an end to world hunger, but Think Secret is once again steering us
down the path of new video-capable iPods. To quickly recap, first we thought for sure that the "One More Thing" would
be a video iPod, then we thought it would be some desktop/notebook upgrades, then we briefly thought
it would be an Apple tablet, and now we've come full circle in expecting video once again. Sources have told Think
Secret that they expect the new iPods to come in 30GB and 60GB flavors, and though they will support video playback,
the main focus will still be on audio. We must say, as much as we love covering every twist and turn of this epic saga,
we're counting the hours till this damn announcement so we can just get on with our lives.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: Think Secret is now reporting that Apple will announce media partnerships to make broadcast content, video podcasts, and other shorter (music?) videos available — no movies for purchase yet. They claim current iPods can already play video (but this is disabled) — which means an updated firmware might enable movie playback, something not infeasible given the power of the iPod hardware platform.

maybe they will reveal that the nano is already capable of playing video and release a firmware upgrade. that wouldn't cut in to nano sales like a new video iPod would. first comment?
Damn you Apple and your trendiness affecting these poor people of Engadget!
Their marketing department is just too good at what they do, it seems.
I really hope it's the first Intel-based PowerBook. *crosses fingers, gets out credit card*
ya they are very good at creating hype... now at least i have something to do when i first wake up tommorow ;0
I have my heart firmly set on an iPod Video or vPod or whatever Steve Jobs want to call his little contradiction, lol. But seriously the minute that thing is release I'm going to be the first one in line to get it! Will and Grace on the go... Yummy lol...
maybe it's a special version of Nano which you can put inside your car headlights
That would be completely awesome as long as they manage to give it a decent screen, and keep their famous interface. Also, this would be a nice platform for games wouldnt it? This could also make iPod linux huge...if a video capable iPod was hacked, you could watch many different formats of video on it. Imagine if they could increase the capacity of the nano and do a flash video iPod!
I do not own any ipod NOR do I really want one... BUT if it is a video ipod hell i'm buying it.
If you think of it, although the ipod is an excellent mp3 player, its no the best in every category (features. battery, size), its just well rounded and has awesome marketing....*MarketinG*...its pure marketing
You all know if that Apple doesnt come out with a video iPod, or they do and its really shitty, there's gonna be like a HUGE riot outside everyone apple store in the US
The suspense is driving everyone nuts. It's almost pure genius. Apparently no one else is able to drum up as much anticipation as Apple does. It's crazy.
>maybe it's a special version of Nano which you
>can put inside your car headlights
Haha!!!
>If you think of it, although the ipod is an

Very true ... Sony's mp3 players are much more practical, but lack software (until the new Connect Player [http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12184] comes out)
I think if Apple introduced a video iPod it would damage nano sales. If Apple does release a video ipod, it'll be after the holiday season. I hope what Caleb Dewberry said will happen. That'll would be awesome. I doubt it though, 2 or 4GB isn't a lot for video
i can see the ipod fans, owners of ipods, ipod shuffles and ipod nanos preparing their credit card to order the ipod video...
i wish i had that kinda money...
I dont really think it would hurt nano sales that much. A video iPod would be more expensive, and much larger, really seperating it from the Nano.
umm... as well as my ipod, i have a sharp zaurus c3000 with fullscreen divx and video playback... i use the z everywhere for work/home etc.. and i must say... i have probably only watched video on it for a total of 1 hour in the last 6 months...
firstly, the screen is VERY impressive on the Z... no other device ive seen can match it... but in reality... when you're on the move... looking down on a screen just doesnt work... you really need your senses to look at the envrionment around you! thats why with music at least you can listen to music whilst still aware of your environment.
on the other hand, an ipod that connects to your tv and plays divx/video.. much like those new portable hard drive enclosure media players... that would be a much better idea.
so....not really all that excitied about a video ipod
"i can see the ipod fans, owners of ipods, ipod shuffles and ipod nanos preparing their credit card to order the ipod video...
i wish i had that kinda money..."
thats exactly it, they DONT have that money, they charge it and MOST fail to pay it off within 30 days. If they had it, MOST would use their debit card.
With all these people hoping for a video iPod, has anyone stopped to consider what formats Apple will support IF they release one? MPEG4 AVC definately will be supported (QT7 is MPEG4 AVC), but perhaps they will lock it to only allow AVC files in a quicktime wrapper. Or they could take it further and lock out DivX and XviD, that would stop alot of potential video piracy that the studios are worried about. I believe having DivX support requires a license from the DivX group. That would seriously impare the video iPod for me and others who have a collection of video files in DivX/XviD.
A 1.5" screen would also be rediculous for watching video files. Only the craziest of Apple fans would put up with that. But the larger the screen gets, the shorter the battery life gets.
Just watching video files on a portable device devours battery life. Unless you can cache large portions of the video in RAM, the device will be spinning the hard disk alot of the time. Combine that with the MPEG4 decoder working away at decoding video files and you'll be lucky to get 2-3 hours of play time out of the device.
How many people out there have internet connections fast enough even to download video files in a reasonable amount of time? On my cable connectiona 700mb movie or 175MB tv show take quite a bit of time to download. If you aren't lucky enough to have a 3Mbit internet connection, you'll be waiting a LONG time to get the latest episode of the Daily Show downloaded to your iPod.
And of course the argument that alot have issued, most people don't want to watch video on the go. You can do other things while listening to music, doing other things while watching a video is impractical at best.
There are just too many reasons why the world isn't ready for a video iPod. Jobs has already said how Apple isn't really interested in entering niche consumer electronics markets. As far as I can tell, portable video is still a niche market.
If you're dissapointed, don't be. Just get a Zen Vision. It's probably close to the prototype PMP that Apple has sitting in their laboratory somewhere. Of course without the clickwheel. But you probably only have a handful of videos on it anyway, it can't take that long to scroll through that list.
Apple, please make a media center!!! We all need your expertise in making a set top box that plays our mp3s, videos, dvds, pics etc, in HD of course. Please make it with Apple looks and Apple interface.
just an observation: the itunes music store has not updated, and it's TUESDAY, which means either they're slacking off or they're working on a big project. It all seems to fit.
If it is indeed a new video ipod i know what my birthday present is :D
this thing would be sexy *drools*
wow i hate hype >.<
I'm starting to think that what would make the world happiest is if Jobs got up there and promised never to say "One more thing" again.
Great Points as to Y the vPod would suck. I believe adding wifi or a camera would be nice. Adding the camera could lead to video at some point. Maybe even setting the stage for low end video capturing and sharing. Not opening up as wide as to being an actual PMP device.
They could announce an DVR.
Cancer is preventable with an alkaline diet.
And yes, Apple will hopefully make us all cry like shee shee pantses!
Maybe it might have an A/V out to watch videos on a TV/home theater setup - who knows?
A video Ipod is a stupid idea. How can you move around and watch video on a tiny screen? It's like those handheld TV's. How many people do you see walking around with those?
As a certified(able) Linux power user, I'd like to pre-announce my dismay at the fact this Apple product - which may or may not exist - doesn't support .ogg video.
=)
i have a friend whose ex-boyfriend works at apple and she seems to think there is going to be a black powerbook released. she says he told her so.
we'll see.
I find it rather ironic that I will take the PSATs tomorrow morning, yet my parents are in the San Fransisco area, and will stay there until tomorrow morning.... haha
Agreed-- with the current dimensions, a video iPod is sort of stupid. However, I'm thinking the screen will be slightly larger and the iPod slightly smaller. (Just look at the 'border' around the current screen. Plus, it only makes sense it would have a 16:9 screen and you'd watch it sideway.) Anyway, it seems it only makes sense the price points stay the same at $299 and 399. I think most people want to pay over 300 for an iPod.... so for $299 (30GB) I could get 20 GB of music (my current library) 8 gigs of vids (ripped Simpsons for the go), 1 gig of photos and 1 gig of sensitive file backup. Perfect!
Video on the go at this point is just a novelty, but seems like a fun novelty (redundant perhaps) at the same price point as the current 20 gig color. My hardworking jog companion Shuffle could use a geeky big bro.
"A 1.5" screen would also be rediculous for watching video files. Only the craziest of Apple fans would put up with that. But the larger the screen gets, the shorter the battery life gets."
The Bigger the screen gets, the bigger the case gets, the bigger the battery gets, the more life it gets. Checks and Balences:-)
At least one radio station here in Sydney has been reporting this video iPod story today as if it were fact. This suggests that either they have got some sort of inside info from Apple, or they have been sucked in by the hype as well.
Divx or an easy conversion tool (i.e. part of iTunes or closely related), would be the real deal breaker for me. Converting all my videos using 3rd party apps can be a real pain as I have done it for both the PSP and GP32 (Although the Gpx2 no longer has this problem); and do not want to go through that process again. Who knows, my 3rd gen ipod might finally be replaced.
Cringely predicted it way back in January:
Video added to the iTunes store front and center. Video out on an Airport Express or Mac Mini accessory with the broadcom chipset that supports h.264 (05-YOHD). Maybe a tie-in with a broadband player, maybe Direct TV to deliver content.
With respect to a Vidoe iPod; you can get video with Linux firmware on the current iPods. Apple can supply an upgrade and wa la - video iPods by the millions. Don't they all support a S-Video connection to your large screen of choice? I guess they could offer a dock connect to DVI dongle.
Does anybody thing the curtain/stage background of the invitation is a clue to the announcement? Last anouncement was what a denim invite, confirming the pocket-size in the nano....so my immediate thought was a movie picture or video iPod.....hadn't seen any related observations......
wutever the thing is, they better not using the same material they used on nano, at least when you using a nano, you dont need to watch it all the time, but if it's a video pod, with a screen full of scrathes? hell no...
I believe we will see some sort of video iPod announcement. I also believe that if they do it will also be in conjunction with announcing a partnership with TiVo. There were some rumors about TiVo and Apple hooking up and this could be it. I find it very strange that TiVo continues to shut out Mac users from things like TiVoToGo. The reason may be because they are working on something even bigger together.
Without a doubt, video to TV will be announced.
Bonjour is now installed with itunes.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bonjour/
Old article that offers a clue:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2003/jan/07rendezvous.html
Everyone is missing the most interesting aspect of a Video iPod. There is no way that the studios or labels will make movie content available to Apple unless they add DRM technology to Quicktime. The upshot of this is that services like Movielink and Cinemanow can now offer mac users online movie rentals because we have Quicktime with DRM. To me that is an even bigger deal than a Video iPod. FINALLY movie rentals on my PowerBook!!!!
I've been waiting for this news a long time...now on those long flights I have the option to watch videos on my iPod...what a match made in heaven!
ah jeeze no no no no please god kill me now no no damn damn crap damn it to hell son of a...
all i want is a 40gb ipod with a single hd platter (so it will be the size of the current 20), maybe better audio quality and battery life, a few extra frills...
i don't want to pay extra (money or bulk) for a video ipod!
so when exactly is the announcement taking place? what time est?
San Jose,California at 10:00 AM PST, Im going to be waiting for the iPod, But dont get too excited Apple may dissapoint you. Well im still hoping for a Video iPod.
This doesn't come as a huge surprise for me as current gen iPods are capable of playing video to some extent. The small screen would be good enough to watch the ocassional music video (of which apple already has started to stock up) and perhaps some short films?
I think it's smart to test the waters out first, because to be honest, the average user would be listening to music at least 80% of the time.
i would have to agree that apple probably wouldnt get into such a niche market with a video ipod. although it would be really cool, its not one of those "why didnt i think of that" guaranteed hits that even your parents end up buying.
i think if the announcement is related to movies as the invite suggests, it has something to do with an itunes video store and some kinda dvr or video airport wireless.
I also think apple would wanna get into the hardware side of digital photography. it seems to be the next big digital thing for mainstream america to adopt, and how cool would it be to have an apple designed, compact camera that could do great pics and video and had an 80 or 100 gig hard drive/long life battery. i guess theres no reason it wouldnt play mp3s as well, and it would obviously play videos, so maybe there is an ipod video....huh. cool.
Just like the ipod photo, my guess is that we'll see an iPod video. It will still be an ipod, whose primary mission is to play music, but will have the added capability of video on a slightly larger screen. Apple has just been extending the ipod with more features, but keeping the mission and form-factor the same.
Has anyone noticed that, like the Tuesday before the nano was announced, iTMS has not been updated today?
Perhaps a video iPod is spot-on and a major video release is imminent for tomorrow.
I'm sorry but a video ipod is just dumb. I think they've been smart to avoid it so far and I don't think that's going to change. Wow look I can watch video on a 1 inch screen, that's totally smokin'!!!!!
"We must say, as much as we love covering every twist and turn of this epic saga, we’re counting the hours till this damn announcement so we can just get on with our lives"
Lives? What lives?
I dont know if any of you have noticed or not but in Apple Stores music video section the videos have not been updated for quite a while now. Is it due to new iTunes music video launch along with video iPod???? Dunno... I've noticed this for the past month ever since iTunes has done 3 updates. Im crossing my fingers! Mixtape music video shows coming soon! from yours truly VJ DVDreams!
Anyone else ever think that the intel based macs could be due about now?
You all seem to be missing the BBC connection. I think Apple will announce some deal with the Beeb to make their stuff (podcasts and vidcasts) available through the iTunes music store.
That is all.
It may be a precursor to a vPod (which may also be hinted at), but there will be no vPod tomorrow.
I think its a video iPod for sure. The invitation had a backdrop of a theater in it. Remember the nano having a backdrop of a jeans change pocket?
50: No, why? I'm pretty sure everyone is talking 2006 for the intel macs.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is NOT Apples Video iPod. This is going to be Apples answer to Microsoft's Media Center.
I bet you ALL my apple stock. Wait and see tomorrow. Apple's Media Center - the year of HD baby!
I currently have video on my 60gb ipod running ipodlinux. I have about 20 music videos and 2 episodes of Arrested Development on it, including about 3000 songs. It is great if your on the go all the time. It will be cool to replace a song with just the music video. I will get it if the battery life is good because watching 1 episode can drain the whole battery, but the ipod photo wasn't meant to run video.
I watch movies on my Palm PDA all the time - it's a fairly large screen for a portable device - about 4" at 320x480 resolution (turned sideways it's nicely widescreen) and the pixel density is very high, so you can see a lot of detail.
From an SD card I can watch about 4 hours of video on it with one charge.
Now, add a hard drive and you kill the battery life, but watching video in a portable device is possible. If they put out a 10Gb flash memory iVod (iVideo on Demand) they could probably get as many hours out of it as the nano does photos (about 4) or even more if they include a bigger battery (which they could easily do if the device was about the size of a 4G iPod) and maybe get movie watching up to 6 or 8 hours.
Heck, anything over 5 would mean you could watch two whole movies, plus listen to a few hours of music. That's enough entertainment for a transcontinental flight.
I think they'll do something with the 5G and the roman numeral for 5 (V) standing for video. Either the iPod V or iVideo or iVod or whatever.
We'll see tomorrow!
Think Secret thinks well see video iPod tomorrow
I dont.
Read what Daemon1 wrote:

Thats why personal video players will never be a big seller, and why Apple wont be releasing a video iPod. Like someone else said, you dont see people walking around and watching those portable DVD players, yet theyve been available for as long as DVDs have.
I said it before and Ill say it again: The only people who want personal video players are geeks/dorks/nerds/dweebs.
Will engagdet start producing video podcast? If you do that you can sell the video podcasts to the tv stations. Make millions!
How bout a realtively low tech device with analog video in/out that stores/plays video digitally? A tiny dvr.

As an avid user of Windows XP MCE, I drool at an Apple entry into the home media server space. While I love MCE and what it can do, I also firmly believe that Apple can do it better and get further with the content and DRM issues that are beginning to bog down the hope of a really good distributed MCE issue. Jobs relationship in the motion picture industry might really let apple do things that MS can not because their hands are tied with some of the DRM issues, and will only lock down harder with the release of Vista. I currently have a MCE box that acts more like a server with Tuner cards (limited with the rollup 2 to 2 alalog, and 2 HDTV) but already with rollup 2 we are seeing broadcast flags impeding what can be sent to extenders etc... We call it the blue screen of copy protection BSOCP. It shows up on HBO and some other pay content channels, but at times has even shown up on teh TV Food network! The HCL is so picky, that until the release of MCE 2005 you could not even buy the OS alone, it had to be in a pre configured package with HW to ensure that the whole system was supported by the OS. Only now have they released the OS to the OEM channel which lets adventurous users buy it from a place like New Egg and roll their own. But with the HCL being so strict in what hardware is supported, very few (geeks like me) go the route of rolling their own and instead buy pre configured MCE boxes from the likes of HP, Gateway or (gag) Dell. Seeing that hardware compatability is a big issue and that the options are so closed that it makes sense for all but the most adventurous users to buy a pre configured machine, this plays right into Apples whole way of doing things with complete control of the hardware platform to ensure that the end user experience with their software will be flawless because of tight hardware control for the platform. This is a great place for Apple to make a HUGE splash by locking down the hardware to systems that will give a good performance for the software, and let the 2 platforms fight it out on the place where it really matters, content. Microsoft has had a couple of years head start, but really have not taken advantage to the fullest extent with areas of MCE like the Online Spotlight. For those that are unfamiliar, online spotlight is a place where 3rd party companies can add content, audio, bideo or text that can be accessed, streamed and played on the large screen all via the 10' nterface (remote control). While MSNTV and reuters have some good content, there is much more that can be done. Alot of that is up to 3rd parties making their content available to the spotlight, but there are some glaring omissions that Apple could really take advantage of in this space either with 1st party offerings or with a more robust 3rd party strategy. An example might shed light on places where I feel like MS and their partners have dropped the ball, and leave an opening for Apple to build a better mouse trap before the technology really moves beyond the geek crowd, and into the mainstream. Microsoft has had a long standing partnership with Major League Baseball to offer streaming content (MLB is by far the most technically aggressive sport out there as far as content, just look at what is available on MLB.com, or from withing Windows Media Player 10) They even went the extra mile and made a subscription service that lets you download and sync highlights and condensed games to a Widows Portable Media Center. Obviously the companies have a broad level of cooperation with content, and have partnered up to make an intriguing product. One problem... they never took the extra time (easily remedied) to add the MLB content available right within WMP into the online spotlight to give the end user the ability to watch any baseball content from theor easy chair with a remote control. Instead, even though it would be east to do, and the content and technology is obviously set up in such a way as to make it easy to do, in order to watch NLB content on your TV through an MCE box, you instead have to use a wired or if you are lucky to have one a wireless keyboard and mouse to navigate either through a web interface or WMP and then select full screen output in order to get the readily available baseball content to stream to your TV. This is just plain stupid! All the parts are there, but neither MS or MLB have had the where with all to make it accessable throught the readily available MCE interface which would make watching a game over the net as easy as watching it off of your cable box. Looking forward a couple of years, does anyone really dispute that with the propper compression and front end that delivery of video content over the internet has the capability to put a dent in the way content is delivered to the living room? Streaming content will only improve, and while even the MLB picture at full screen is not perfect, it is certainly watchable, but beside a geek like me who is willing to jump threough the hoops nesessary to get the picture on the TV, who is really going to go through all that trouble. Another example is AOL. They have recently really upped the ante as far as content delivery via broadband, but up until now, all that they affer via the spotlight is the ability to watch a few music videos, leaving most of their (tons) of strea, ing content only available to those who wqill put up with surfing the web to get to it. If Apple did this right, they could really take over this burgening market by naking the content that is already out there easily accessable via remote control. I also see that the maker of WinTV, the (disputed) leader in capture/tuner cards for MCE now have an Apple compatable product under the company name of ESKAPE Labs. It is a USB product, but how hard would it be to make a PVR 150 or better for the MAC? all the parts are there to do this, and apple is the UI kink and can blow Microsoft's (good) interface out of the watter if they put some resources to it. This leaves the rest of the MCE echosystem to be addressed. Microsoft has a good strategy in the XBOX 360's ability to act as an MCE extender, adding HDTV (ATSC only) to the mix. But there are still weaknesses there. It is a closed system, and does not give you the ability thst MCE does to add codecs to the extender in order to stream DIVX or XVID to an extender. I have already got tons of content on those formats, and the thought of having to re encode in WMV in order to stream my content to an extender is unacceptable. so for the extra hundred dollars or two, it is more worthwile to create small quiet less powerful boxes with the full OS on it and use them as extenders to allow mw to configure them to play the file formats I wish instead of being locked to MS's extender platform. Boy a MAC Mini would really come into its own as a small media deliver box (ie the extender) giving me all the flexability I could ever want. OR, Apple could go to Sony (gasp) and say hey, lwts get together on this, if MS is going to trojan horse MCE extender capabilities into the 360, the lets let the PS3 extend an Apple product to remote rooms in order to give the consumer the ability to do with an Aple/Sony cooperative what MS is offering on the 360. This would give Sony something it does not have over MS in the next console race, a compelling reason to sell a secont and 3rd PS3 into the house.
If you couple that with a video Ipod to compete with the portable MCE device, then you really have a full blown echosystem that could blow MCE out of the water, and put MAC on the map as the tool to use to put it all together and dominate the burgrning home media server market. The pieces are all there, and Apple could sell a ton of Macs and Video Ipods if they do this with a complete strategy to take over the living room. The time is now. Apple, are you listening? I guess maybe we will find out tomorrow..
BBC Financial News this morning confirmed that Apple will be announcing the video iPod today. If I'm not mistaken, they'll be doing so at the BBC Television Centre in White City sometime this afternoon GMT).
I think its safe to say Apple has either plugged the hole or has learned how to feed disinformation to whomever TS's mole at Apple is. I think the era of 100% accuracy TS rumors is over.
Don't you think that it's really silly and childish to talk about it? "Oh, what it will be tomorrow? Have you already seen the presents my Mom prepared for the Christmas? Ah, well, I expect my Dad to buy me a new bicycle!"
Hey, look at yourself! Do you have another topics to discuss? iPod! iPod! It's everywhere. Maybe it's time to visit your mental doctors?
ok bbc financial
"According to media speculation, Mr Jobs may on Wednesday launch yet another new version of the iPod, this time a model that can play videos."
only speculation
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4332680.stm
It will definitely be a 'retro-look' b&w 90x90 pixel screen 1-pound player with mechanical scroll wheel and 20MB HD, and, as expected, 8 bit monaural audio playback capability.
if it werent for the pretty red curtain invitations or the iTunes music video hints, I would would say that by everything that apple has pretty much ever stated on record, and the fact that I think it would be a big bomb for the most part, there is no chance in hell for a vPod.
Either way, apple stock has jumped up 11% in after hours trading.
All I care about is the transition to Intel ( a year or so after). That is when the party starts for me.
I WANT AN IPOD VIDEO.
Apple will lock this market up!
Drop me a line with all your Apple stock for your prediction. I accept.
I really dont see the huge benefit of releasing a media center before the Intel transition. I think Apple will wait for new major processor contigent products after intel.
69: If you mean jumped, as in jumped off a cliff, then yeah the apple stock "jumped" 10% in after hours trading.
if this is true, the PSP is DEAD
This is now soundly into the realm of "please, dear god, stop talking about it."
Even if it IS a video iPod....who cares?
I mean Apple isn't known for making products with the widest range of format support, so how are they going to top Creative's Zen Vision?
yeah that http://www.appleipodvideo.com thing is kinda saying something cause it redirects to the apple store which could mean that like around 11:00 am PST theres gonna be a video ipod being sold or pre-sold in the apple store.lets just hope
video ipod comes out finally
While these idiots debate
and waste your time with
conjecture viz brings you the facts.
THESE ARE THE FACTS!
Apple's new video ipod
will be announced. It is
an apple flavoured fizzy drink
in a metallic cubed shaped container and when you
sup it, scenes from your favourite
pop video are projected inside your
mind, leaving your hands comepletely free while you're out
jogging or riding the bus etcetera.
No more cumbersome gadgets or DRM and everyone
is pleased
I think they'll also introduce a bluetooth mighty mouse.
Has anyone heard anything else regarding an update to the airport? I heard mumblings a few months ago and have been holding out for a 108/125Mbs airport X2. Maybe it will have A/V ports. A new airtunes adapter may also have the same ports allowing streaming of video across a fast network to your TV. Video iPod, new airport hardware and updates to powerbook/powermac lines? Sound possible to anyone?
What if the announcement isn't a new product, but rather a firmware update to all the iPods to allow video playback?
I'm just saying that it seems more likely, because a firmware update wouldn't cannibalize sales of the nano but rather give new life to already existing products.
Of course video for the iPod will be announced today... why do you think the invitation displays red velvet theater curtains?

Alright, so I was way off...
I had said this back in august on this thread in Engadget. A dev told me they already could. http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000867050877/
