HP recalls 135,000 laptop batteries
Apparently Apple isn't the only company in the hot seat over its laptop batteries. HP has just announced a recall on 135,000 batteries in HP and Compaq laptops sold between March 2004 and May 2005. The company has received 16 reports of overheating. Unlike Apple's previous battery problems, however, none of the HP batteries have burst into flames. Yet. Affected batteries have barcode labels starting with GC, IA, L0 or L1.

Whee! Burn baby burn! Thankfully I bought an Acer...

God, I've only had my zd8000 for 3 weeks or so. I have 2 batteries... this is gonna be a pain. You'd figure that for 2 gs they'd be able to build a quality device. You'd be wrong

MY FRIGGAN LEG...... ARG HELP ME NOW...
Guess again, Mine actualy did catch fire, although it was an ealier model, purchace in 2003, my started burning on a wooden end table. The table had a large burn mark, but there were small flames which burnt through the machine. Fortunatly HP replaced the whole thing at no charge about a year ago. Thank god we were there when it happened, I have a tendancy of leaving it unattended.
wait time on the phone is 30 minutes they suggest we go to the site but the site says
This site is temprorarily unavailable.
Please check back soon.
for what it's worth, i eventually got through on the site. It took a few refreshs, but it eventually worked all the way through. unfortunately my battery isn't on the list. i say unfortunately because i only get 45 minutes of life on the damn thing.
The one I got from BestBuy was the L1 version
The one that came with my ZV6000 is the GC version
HP says since I have a ZV6000 I'm not affected. So I guess ... if you don't have a zv6000 you could get burned ... literally
On the phone now with battery support, and when they say 30 min. they mean it. Now they tell me that the battery in the HP Pavilion zv6000 is not being recalled. Anyone have problems with my model (mine gets really hot)? Larry
the site is down i called in and waited for 20min
I hope i have one of these. My r3000 that i bought a year ago is starting to lose its charge.
Then again, hopefully my apartment hasn't burned down when i get home from work.
