Sanyo's XACTI DMX-C6
As you have probably already guessed, this is the 6 megapixel version of the XACTI DMX-C5 MPEG4 digicam and camcorder. In hopes of being taken more seriously as a camcorder, they have upped the recorded frame rate from 30 to 60fps. Other than that, nothing else has really changed (which is not necessarily a bad thing): 5x optical zoom, tapeless recording to SD memory, and what appears to be the same 2-inch LCD in that very light little package. Expect these to drop for about $655 in late November.

Hahahaha, I was seriously in the middle of order an DMX-C5... I'm glad I read this...
Look, they're the same colors as the new Toshiba Gigabeats (previous blog entry)! Hehe.
They kinda got that old Super-8 camera's of the 70's look. Especially the Fujica-8. It's almost nastalgic.
Glancing Aft same here. i was just about to buy the c5.
anyone use the c5 is it any good?
Babelfish is so sweet:
2005 July 1st, the Sanyo Electric put out new vision "Think GAIA". GAIA, like one life body as the planet which has lived "the earth", and one one which exists in the earth "it is and after" and, it is one gathering, "society" is displayed. As for the Sanyo Electric, "as for the earth how you probably will think", "it will be and after and probably will rejoice in society?" that while always questioning, it starts offering goods and service combining core technology and in the future technology
oh man, you're lucky mr. glancing ...
i just ordered a c5 off ebay and am not too sad, i'm going to europe for 2 weeks and i'm sure i'll make good use of it.
from another news site i read that the c6 should have better low-light capabilities ... if the release comes closer and the specs make the case, i _will_ have to send my c5 back to the bay =)
How do you record video at 60fps? You sure you don't mean 60 fields?
I have used the C series from C1, C4, and now C5. The reason I continued using this hybrid is that it works well and gets used because it is handy enough to carry around. The fact that the battery is still the same allows me to have spares from previous cameras.
The movie is great. At 60 frames per second, this could allow better still frame captures if required. It would also allow better frame by frame analysis of things like golf swings. It may also imply faster processing and hence faster transfer of still photography during video recording. This translates to a shorter pause in the video recording when a simultaneous photo is taken during video recording. Hardly any other hybrid has this simultaneous function that is very handy (eg. Everio hasn't got this plus being too big for pocketing)
I don't like the lack of megapixel choices for stills. Also despite mentioning 60fps, it is not in the specs listing. Strange.
Playback of the mpeg4-aac combination requires the computer. There are still relative few hard-drive players that do mpeg4 and aac audio. Epson Px000 does it well but has no remote. Neuston does it badly and requires the computer on anyway. TViX has been postponed. PQI's Mpack has not been checked by me.
The software that comes with the camera has always been good and allows production of moderately advanced DVDs. The browser allows you to see photos and video thumbnails and allows combination slideshows. It is a very complete package. The cradle can be left plugged into the TV for quick viewing of the day's events. The battery in the camera charges when in the cradle. The power pack has an additional slot for charging another battery. This charges first before the cradle's.
Finally, the quality of video is great providing there is enough lighting and that the filters are set well for the lighting. Incandescent lighting needs the right filter mode or there will be a definite yellow tinge in the whole video. Photographs are great though the flash can be a bit weak. I hope that the increased light sensitivity thing is true. Controls are easily assesible albeit requiring some memory of the shortcuts. They may have added some more shortcuts as they have since the C1.
So much for this quick off-the-cuff mini-review.
I'll take a black one to go with my iPod.
Really, I hope these just keep getting better.
I'm planning on buying one in about a year and half, and I want one in this form factor.
I'll be able to carry my camera and camcorder in my pocket, instead of two separate devices in two bulky bags.
Who knows, I might even buy one sooner.
I was looking at the C5 in the Apple Store Tuesday, and I like it.
Morty baby, you're killing me hear!
You gotta lay off the pipe before blogging on Engaget you're babeling like babelfish again.
And finally a Red-Eye correction seems to be available (lacking on my C4).
I have a Sony 3CCD digital camcorder which gives me incredibly professional sound and video. However, I rarely use it because of it's size. When you pack it up with all the accesories it is a commitment. For the past month, I have been playing around with the SANYO C5 and I have actually been using it because of it's size. It is easy to whip out and at a party, and people don't seem intimidated by it because it almost looks like it is just a camera. Very easy to use with my MAC, and also to playback on TV. Downfall: low light situations... I hope they change that with the C6! So far the battery life has been great - there has never been a time when lack of battery juice stops me. Chargin is easy and fast. It's not my SONY, but hey, I actually use this one! This is one case where bigger is not always better!
