Oct 21: What's on HDTV today

Symphony

What we're watching
:

There's the typical Friday night network fare available, but it's been a long, hard week so I need something relaxing to watch. I'm skipping the MLS game between D.C. and Chicago because that wouldn't qualify as relaxing for me. If you need some good soccer action in HD, you can catch it at 9 p.m. in 1080i on HDNet.

Instead, I'm parking myself on the couch at 8 p.m. and tuning in to Discovery-HD for some back-to-back musical performances in 1080i. First up is Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 from the Lobkowitz Palace in Austria. This is the actual location that Beethoven premeired No. 3, back in 1805; this should be stunning in high-def.

At 9:30 p.m., Discovery-HD travels to the Glyndebourne Opera House in London. Cecila Bartoli and Bryn Terfel perform with the famed London Philharmonic. Like I said....relaxing!

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

Here are some other HDTV programs showing on selected networks today. All times are Eastern:
