Live shots of Mirae Plasma's "Paper-thin" speakers
So AVING got some live shots of those 0.5mm thin speakers from Mirae Plasma we saw a couple weeks ago. They are evidently real and evidently thin — two points in our book. They look to be pretty flexible as far as configuration and size go, but the shape affects the sound so maybe those origami swans you've been planning aren't going to work out so well.

It "affects" the sound surely, rather than "effect"ing it. To "effect" is to create or somehow make possible - to "affect" is to alter or somehow change.
If the meaning of "effect" was implied, take neither notice nor heed hereto.

dude nice comment about effect/affect anyway, i want a wall hanging of this stuff so i can hide my 5.1 how about wall paper?
I wonder if it needs to be curved for good sound. All the pictures show it like that. I'm thinkin' of one giant centre channel speaker, doubling as a speaker. Sweeet.
Wallpaper? Didn't you read?? The shape effects the sound. If correct sound is only possible with a certain shape, then that shape could be said to "somehow make possible" the sound.
Looks like the shape both "affects" AND "effects" the sound. :-)
and that shape sure seems to be of the rounded variety.
I would be surprised if the sound from these is better than super dinky/trebly... But the concept is nice!
Although this is a novel shape to produce sound - take a few steps back and think about the normal speaker design. It has a paper-thin membrane in a cone shape that oscillates to move air and produce sound. These people took the same idea (moving membrane) and bent it into a non-ideal shape for novelty sake.
These cannot produce bass. It is impossible for a speaker that size to produce bass at a level that you would be able to hear. Hence the woofer in the middle of them.
I would be more impressed if they made a really big one of these things a subwoofer. Then you would be able to see it shaking and twitching... probably wouldn't sound very good - but sure would look cool.
spwned.
Although these may save some space, wouldn't the whole idea for it to be to save space? Why else would they make it so thin? If the only way you can get decent sound from it is to roll it up like that, it kinda defeats the whole purpose.

So, finally flexible LCD can support audio?
First of all, the word is affect. Althering the shape affects the dispersion resulting in different aural effects.
Second of all, this thing is more similar to electrostatic rather than conventional cone speaker drivers. Except, this driver is "decorative" since you can print stuff on it.
Obviously, sound quality is not there niche.
#11 if your gonna correct the posters grammar at least get it right yourself...
"sound quality is not _their_ niche."
But yeah, I don't see these speakers as anything but a gimmick. Directional sound though, that stuff is where it's at.
whos the singer(?) on the right hand speaker
Damn, 14 posts before a comment was made about the hot babe. You people are slipping! ;-)
Ipod Paper....
Shoot me now!
err wait... on second thought *shot*
[been waiting so long for these things to literally roll out as proof]
