The HTC Hermes and HTC Star Trek

Neither of these are going to be available for a while, but images and specs for a couple of new HTC phones have popped up online.

The HTC Hermes (pictured above) is a Pocket PC Phone that looks a lot like a successor to the HTC Wizard. It's listed as having quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS (and possibly HSDPA), a QWERTY keyboard, a QVGA, 320 x 240 pixel LCD touch screen, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 416MHz processor, a 2.1 megapixel digital camera (with flash), and a second video camera on front for making video calls. Should be out sometime around May of next year.

The HTC Star Trek (pictured at right) isn't much to look at, at least not yet, but this one's a clamshell that's supposedly going to be about the same size as the Motorola RAZR V3 (just slightly thicker) and have quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, a QVGA, 320 x 240 LCD, Bluetooth, a two megapixel digital camera (with flash), 64MB of RAM, up to 128MB of ROM, and a microSD memory card slot. Should drop March of 2006.

You'd have thought they'd be able to align the keys on the Hermes like a normal keyboard with all that space to the sides. Still, looks like a nice phone.

this might be a dumb question, but why do they have the same screen resolution? shouldn't the hermes have a VGA screen if the star trek has a QVGA screen?

Looks like Hermes will be the Skype capable version of the Wizard... the source link does say it's got Bluetooth as well.

Damn, I just ordered my Wizard yesterday. I seriously doubt that the Hermes will be as small as the Wizard with those kind of specs. But hey you never know.

Unfortunately from what I've seen of the device, it feels a bit tacky. It's pretty light, but that keyboard is nasty. Admitedly, it wasn't the hermes that I saw, but a rebadged version. If you're listening HTC, I'd like a more tactile keyboard, and a nicer slide function. Then it would own. BTW, it's also about the same size as a Jam

Slight improvement over the wizard, but not good enough. I much rather see a wizard like device with VGA screen and a real SD card slot.
