Dell to release media happy XPS M140 and Dimension E310 later today
Today Dell will announce their entertainment focused
XPS M140 laptop and Dimension E310 desktop. The
M140 features MediaDirect technology for direct access to photos, music, and vids without having
to boot the OS and like all XPS products includes Windows XP MCE 2005. It sports a 2.13 GHz Pentium M, 14.1-inch
WXGA widescreen display, 4 x USB 2.0, FireWire, S-Video Out, PCMCIA slot, 5-in-1 card reader, Hi-Def audio support
and is configurable with 802.11b or b/g, up to 2GB RAM, an 80GB HDD, and DVD±RW all stuffed into a 5.5-pound,
1.5-inch thick design. Sorry…no TV tuner. The E310 meanwhile is Dell's 3.2 GHz P4 entry level
Media Center PC with MCE 2005 and optional tuner for watching or recording that sweet, sweet teevee. The XPS M140
will start at a cool G ($999) and will ship in November. The E310 starts at $599 and should be available later
today.
Update: M140 (pictured) now official.

I was impressed until I saw no TV tuner? Huh????

Does XPS stand for Express or what?

Dell's been using external TV tuners for ages now... I'm sure it'll be an option.

The TV tuner w/remote is a $130 option on the build & price page. No mention if it's an internal or external unit though. We're getting our kids new computers for Christmas and Dell has some great deals right now....but I think I'll wait a few more weeks to see what else comes out.

As an owner of an XPS Gen 2, I can say that this laptop is totally weak. Integrated graphics? Even the Inspiron 6000 can be speced out with an X300. The XPS M140 only comes with GMA900 graphics.

It would be external.
I would highly recommend Dell, I have a Inspiron 9300 and I love it to death, it's a great computer. Much better than my Gateway PC...this is coming from a teenager by the way, haha.

i agree. how can they put "XPS" on a machine with a integrated gpu? theres nothing "Xtreme" about that (well, unless your intel, then you can call it extreme)

How stupid are you lot? The XPS can be configured with an nVidia 6800 Ultra. How is that crappy?
The TV tuner is external, but so what? You need a proper aerial to get anywhere near decent reception, so you may as well have the TV tuner external and leave it at home on your desk, attached to your house aerial.

Dell sells lots of Hauppauge PVR-USB-2 with their MCE machines.

ch424,
This article is talking about the XPS M140, not the XPS M170. Tefultonhow is correct that the M140 only has intergrated graphics any you cannot upgrade. Don't call people stupid because it makes you look like a fool. Go to Dell's website and check it out yourself before you criticize others.

if you all need more spects than M140 you can choose M170 have complete fiture, and more expensive....
