Amoi E800 WM5 smartphone
We've spotted up-and-coming Chinese OEM Amoi at
several different trade shows, but this is the first time we've seen a real working phone, and not just some concept
mock-up. The E800 is a clamshell-style phone in the vein of Nokia's
Communicator lineup, with the external
1.1-inch OLED screen and keypad unfolding to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 main LCD display.
Other goodies in this Windows Mobile 5-powered smartphone are Bluetooth, microSD expansion, and a 2 megapixel camera.
You can pick one of these up (well you can't, but your friends in Asia can) starting January 6th for around $620.
[Thanks, Koi]

The form factor reminds me of the Moto A630. Hopefully it isn't as thick.
Isn't this the G6301?

Ohh goddie This phones form factor looks much better than the 650 or any other upcoming smartphone for that matter. sure wish it had evdo gps and wifi though.
that thing is ugly, and way too expensive
That is a tricorder. Hands down the trekkiest gadget I've seen here in a while.
CDMA or GSM?
CDMA or GSM?
yeah, it looks strikingly similar to the LG vx9800. it looks nice, tho.
If you rtfa, you see it's gsm.
The design looks unfinished as if it was a beta prototype.
Not to be released in the USA, bah thats orgasmic. What I wouldn't pay to git one for myself. Any news on the providers in asia?

wow, 1 inch thick?
i guess asians can carry them.... in their friggin' MANPURSES.
It's not a knockoff of the LG vx9800, the LG phone is just a text-messaging phone - no smartphone.
This Amoi phone is ugly as sin, and I'm going to Asia in January to buy one anyway. FINALLY someone made a Windows Mobile 5.0 phone I can carry in my pocket. It has every single feature I want, except a decent high-speed connection, but I don't care. I wouldn't care if it was as ugly as a Nokia, I'd still buy it.
Mikami - thanks for that Brighthand link. You're right, that does look like the same phone. In that article, it says the G6301 will have EDGE. It even makes it sound like the phone is coming out here in the US. The pictures are hot, too.
It's so ugly that unless it has UMTS, HSDPA, EV-DO, WiFi and Wimax and weights 50g nobody is going to buy it.
