NEC SpectraView 2180WG-LED: first lumiLED LCD…and worth every penny
The NEC SpectraView 2180WG-LED sure looks like one of those old microfiche readers from the downtown public library but it's cutting edge man, we mean bleeding. It's the first LCD in what should be a trend to feature LumiLEDs and the promise of richer colors from a wider palette. Tom's Hardware takes us through a full verbal dissection and then throws down the praise in heaps citing the 2180WG-LED's "overwhelming superiority" in terms of color rendering and uniformity of brightness. Sure this 1600 x 1200 (native resolution) monitor isn't the first (or even 100th) choice for gamers. It is, however, ideal for photo retouching and other color-demanding tasks on static images. You'll have to dig deep though for the $6,600 required to bring it home. Pics without the hood after the break.

This is hilarious. I thought one of the big pushes for LCDs was the form factor. Sure, this isn't the size of a CRT, but if you are serious about static image editing, you can pick up a high end CRT for much less.

And thus J shows his total incompetence by not reading the bloody article. Once again proving that highschool idiots inhabit engadget.

This why I'm holding off on any large screen purchases. We're 1-2 years away from LED backlighting. There's just no comparison in terms of quality.

This is extremely cool technology. Can't wait to see it come down in price.

A local firm that I often contract with has this monitor and it's so *insanely* brilliant in terms of color.
Walking by someone using it, I stopped and asked her "Where did you get that screen protector". She smiled, moved, allowed me to use it. Absolutely amazing. I had never seen an image that was so absolutely "there" in terms of color and clarity.
I want one.
I want it now.
heh.
