Is this the PSP headset? Over. Could be! Over.
Not so sure about you, but this thing looks pretty much like an officially official Sony-made PSP headset to us. The
first of what we hope will be many Sony-made
PSP accessories to be released this
holiday season — the PSP Giga Pack just isn't quite
sitting right with us right now as their sole offering. Apparently this bad boy'll ship the 5th of November, and will
run you up $19.99.
[Thanks, Rohan]

Well, this could make the PSP very interesting if it is true. I'd like to see some homebrew software that would make this skype compatible.
Momus @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
Hey how 'bout some games?
Brad Twitty @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM

JustChillin338 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
OMG! Is it just me, or does that have a MICROPHONE?! D'you think they're gonna make like an online service like Xbox Live... but for the PSP and free? Hm...
Gaming-Setup @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
Hopefully there will be a price drop with the PSP. *crosses fingers*
tiuk @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
#5 JustChillin338, yes, a microphone is what normally seperates a headset from a set headphones.

If you havn't played Socom on PSP, don't knock it. I happen to have played it, and it's pretty good.
Oscr @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
if u look in the back of the PSP where u plug in the headphones, u can see a little engraving of what looks like a headseat.Check it out!
DaveHimself @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
First of all, Momus, "how about some games?" Enough already. I swear the headline could read "PSP Attachment provides cold fusion and world peace" and you guys would complain that neither are games.
Second, If this item is for real Sony has really failed on the package. Maybe its a temporary package solution or for industry use only or something, but it seems sub-standard for Sony. Also, the phones have a dome shape in silver. Nothing for the PSP is silver. Even the date on the photo looks like it was added.
I remain suspicious.

We knew a headset was coming, why are some of you surprised? And a headset is not required for Socom. I beta tested it and I can assure you that it is still playable without one.
Glenn @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
Yeah, that certainly looks like a microphone.
ZeroCorpse @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
But WHAT ABOUT GAMES? Really! I *won* my PSP at 1UP.com and I still ended up selling it last month because there weren't any games I liked, and they were too expensive for a portable system.
If the PSP drops in price, and the games get cheaper, then MAYBE I'll get one again. For now, I'm happy with my GBA Micro.

DaveHimself @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
Do a google image search for MDRQ22LP and you will find either:
The headphones sony re-designed to be a headset for the PSP.
or
The headphones the scammer used to mock up his bogus PSP headset.
I am sure the headset is coming, I just don't think this is it.

"Could this headset bring good news into making the psp more than a Portable gaming device?"
Wait the PSP was a portable gaming device? When did I miss that. When were the games released?
Agent X @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
I'm inclined to think this is real. In any event, a voice headset is scheduled to be released in just a few days, according to the EB Games Web site:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/259864.asp
I doubt it would work with any of the existing online-playable PSP games, as the games would need to be programmed with the headset in mind. But, I would expect to see more online PSP games supporting the headset in the future.
sean barrett @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
or you could just plug in your own headset!
all you need is a game that is compatible!

Ravi @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
That's a fake. someone made that label in photoshop and stuck it in a box :|. And SONY sells those EXACT headphones at Sonystyle. Some photoshop, and WALLA! you get the mic.

There are no good PSP games.

Why do people even waste their time mocking things up like this?
It's truly sad when people do this:
'Let's get my 15 mins of fame on the internet!'
I'd rather have a life to be honest.
g3RC4n @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
could be fake as thier is a picture of the headset on the box, all the other accesories sold don't have that on them (or it might just be the european ones).
and it looks kind a cheap anyway, wouldn't they be black or white and not silver?
Xavier @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
Wow all you people claiming that these are shopped because sony sells these same headphones must not realize the PSP headphones are also sold by sony as a single item and ALSO come with a walkman sold by sony... so you see that it is common for them to just use a design from pre-existing headphones for other products
Xavier @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
AND this packaging looks JUST like the packaging that the PSP acessory case is sold in...
mattg @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
...the microphone doesnt fit in the packaging.
I am Striker @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
I think they should have those cell phones type of microphone, two heads phones thing plus with a microphone at the bottom.
Ace @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
You guys must not know much about the psp because there are great games for it. They now have grand theft auto, madden 2006, x men legends, and dynasty warriors. Socom and battlefront 2 are coming soon and they also have hundreds of movie titles. It has ps2 like graphics and a headset would make it like ps2 online and with the thing to put it on the tv it will be a virtual portable playstation (hence the name psp) able to be played on a tv
