Nov. 3: What's on HDTV today

Pirates

What we're watching
:

Disney, I mean ABC, is showing a great movie in high-def tonight at 8 p.m. and I can't wait. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl" was a different type of Disney movie when it was released in 2003. It's much darker and more intense than the typical Disney fare, but that's good for us HD addicts. See, this is a fantastic movie to check your black levels on your set. There are bunches of low-light scenes with plenty of shadowing to see how your set stands up to the test.

If you haven't recently, try and do some manual calibration of your set before the show. All too often, people have their brightness up for today's programming; a common mistake. If you watch the flick in 720p tonight, check back in here and tell us how your set handled the dark scenes! Let us know what display type you have for the test, as well.

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.
