Transcend JetFlash: 8GB USB flash drive
USB flash drives are hardly news unless
someone can push the specs. Funny to think that even
though it's been about a year since we first started
hearing about flash drives in this capacity,
Transcend's new JetFlash can still turn heads with 8GB of
storage (and decent 21MB/s reads and impressive 11MB/s writes). No pricing yet but expect to drop a grand for the big
GBs.

Update: Ding! Hot that this thing can be
had for under $650 direct from
Transcend. Thanks, nefarious.

For 'write' read 'read'. For 'read' read 'write..
Hope that clears it up ;-)
Over a grand for a thumbdrive? You've got to be out of your mind.
That's a lot of flash memory...
We may not be willing to pay $1K for flash memory now, but as it gets cheaper, it'll start to get integrated into laptops to replace hard drives. No more moving parts!
I'd much sooner buy two 4 GB iPod Nanos for $500.
This would be perfect for a portable bootable install like described at: http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/179
I ran across this review and was glad to hear that there is finally a flash drive that I can copy movies and carry along to work with me. Incidentally on the same day, I ran across another 8gig flash drive from cadgarage.com, that retails for under $150., go figure. The link is posted so that you may review and add comments. By the way, engadget rocks.

I found this by accident today and it makes Transcend's drive look a little boring. Try sizes of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB(!!!). 30MB/sec read AND write, swivel cap, and a bunch of handy software included. Price? Expect to fork over an appendage or two. It isn't yet available yet >.<

Yes, but this is FLASH MEMORY. You don't get those bragging rights with the iPod nano. :)
