I remember people like you used to call HDTV "unnecessary" when HDTV came out. Three decades later, you can call those people stupid, but possibly you are now being one of them. History repeats like that.
NHK has been developing SHDTV for decades as a successor of HDTV which it also had pioneered in 1970's. NHK IS the main contributer of HDTV. It is saying SHDTV runs at 7680x4320 with 60fps and it need at least a decade more of research to make it affordable. Compare it with IMAX3D (5616x4096@48), it has just little bit higher res, doesn't it?
It's all for re-re-re-released and re-re-re-remastered Starwars movie, kid.
