Nokia 770 due in the US November 10th?
We know, we know, you've all been pining to see for yourselves just how well
Doom runs on this guy, but it looks like your wait is
almost over. After surprising Europe with their
770 launch on Thursday, Nokia seems to be
poised to swing their internet tablet around to the States a week after on November 10th — that's the word on the
street, at least according to InternetTabletTalk.com who have been following the 770 quite closely for a while. There's
no word on price, but in Europe it's been going for about the equivalent of US$430, so hopefully we'll get similar love
here. You can check this review of the device while you
wait, or just pass the time in a slightly less enlightened state, your call.

It's selling around €350 with taxes in Europe. So I would bet that it's going to cost $350 (+ tax) in the states.
Has anyone heard of the free one at:
http://bryansanime.blogspot.com
I wanted to register..
Can anyone tell me why I should get this over a Palm PDA with WiFi built-in?
Ummm... because the screen is 800x400 and you can actually browse a web page the way it is supposed to look. Trying to look at web pages on a palm or pocket pc just sucks.
Will it run on win mobile or linux? I'd like to be able to code in .NET Compact for a device like this, but if it doesn't have a .NET compiler then I'm SOL.
at 5:
Linux, and yes you can program c# apps using mono. See:

(scroll down)
It's OS is based on Debian Linux. http://www.maemo.org
Thousands of Linux software can be easily port over. Check out some of the port programs at maemo.org.
Why go for closed source program like Windows? Your ability to use the device is over once the vendor stop supporting the product and new software requirements arise. I am going to buy this Nokia 770 because I know that I can count on community/self to add new software features should Nokia decides to stop supporting the product.
#5, the 770 runs Linux and if i remember correctly Nokia is even encouraging development on it with available open source tools. I saw info about it on Nokia's site.
Looking forward to it personally.. Christmas gift to myself..
According to the team over at LinuxDevices.com - http://linuxdevices.com/news/NS5409534614.html "The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet runs an operating system called Nokia Internet Tablet 2005, which Nokia says is based on Linux and other open source software. The open source distribution includes an on-screen keyboard, Internet Radio, RSS news reader, image viewer, and media players."
It was orginally supposed to sell for $299. This is sort of a dissapointment, but still a nice device. If its fast enough.
GIMME!

It's worth it.
#6: Thanks. I'm aware of mono and have even tried doing some programming with it. After spending the better part of a day trying to just get the development env set up on my linux box, I decided that it was a waste of my time. I'll look for a device like this that runs WinMobile.
I think I saw this in the Misdemeanor video "Lose Control"
Looks amazing, I'm looking forward to getting one of those...
I would like to have a device this size that works with a phone carrier like the treo 650 or a blackberry. the screen would be so much more readable. understand i dont want this for a phone, just an internet device.
Does it have SideTalking?
