Samsung's P300 in the wild
Cellularmania's got mass prOn and some additional specs on Samsung's new SGH-P300 credit card cameraphone. Besides the 1.3 megapixel shooter, Bluetooth, and 90MB of flash we knew about, this TI throwback looks to be tri-band GSM/GPRS with a 220x176 pixel TFT display in a tasty 0.35-inch wafer. More snaps after the break.
[Thanks, Tony]

Yeah the specs are all fine and dandy, but its still ugly as sin
Luke @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Does that phone have a headphone jack? I don't even see a charging jack, and I see a cover on one of the sides (along with a photo button), so that's a possibility.
Other than that, this phone is hawt.
Nas @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
is it me, or does it look like a calculator?
Taylor @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
That phone is like sex.
Damn Verizon and their damn CDMA!

looks nice. i like the design. quite clear and simple. not as round and organic like the trendy trash that is sold these days..
James @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Awesome! I assume you can use it as a normal phone, unlike the similar NEC N900?
yelohbird @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM

"...with a 352x288 pixel TFT display"
Think the display is 220x176, and the 1.3MP camera records video at 352x288 CIF resolution.
Wonder if 850MHz is one of the three GSM bands?
Thomas Ricker @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
AFD, you're right about the display vs. video res at least according to the Italian babelfish translation. I have updated the post.
Anthony @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
LOVE IT!
amnesia @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
thats a D600 on it not a D500
tm @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
No, Nas, it's not just you- it looks like a calculator. Maybe MR and MC are soft keys.
noname @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
yeah, it looks cool.
Matt @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
I don't care if this looks like a calculator. I want one!!
Damo @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
are memory slots expensive and/or hard to incorporate? why are so many phones w/mp3 players coming out with only mediocre memory sizes and no way to expand them?
ela2 @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Sweet!
Jayson Elliot @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Aesthetics are subjective. Most people will agree it looks like a calculator; some people (like me) think it looks great, others will hate it.
"Ugly as sin" is a pretty harsh take, considering the commenter didn't expand on his thoughts. What's bothering you? The clean lines? The brushed aluminum? The amazing size?
Whatever. I'm a smartphone addict, but I'm in serious lust over this phone. I'll buy one as my second phone for when I'm going to a club or anytime I don't want to lug a bigger handset. Something tells me it might end up taking over my loyalty completely, if it works as good as it looks.
Mathew @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
any word if or when is this one coming to Europe?
Jin Kim @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
This is a simply designed phone that I like. A lot! The only obvious problem for me is the location of the "0" button. Samsung, I would like the 0 button to be below the 8 button please. You can also make the buttons a little smaller to do this. If you do that, you definitely have a customer even if it means switching over from Verizon.
duestown @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Come on Samsung, CDMAize this phone! I don't need another crappy Verizon flip!
Oh man it's so small...
sunz @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
the one thing i do not like about it .. is the ratio .. maybe it is psychological but my head is , i guess, long. I kinda think a phone should hold a ratio with a length larger than the width .. i think i'd feel wierd with this phone against my skull .. (provided it will probably work just fine) .. *sigh* i love the simplicity though ...
Pal @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
I like the design. Simple, no hinges, metal.
Eric N. @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Is it just me or does the phone look like it would be uncomfortable to use over extended periods of time?
I dig the stainless steal look -- big fan of the Motorola v60... This guy I'd be afraid to drop, toss, or put in my pocket.
tonloc @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Yeah, but is there a speakerphone? Can't be holding my wallet up to my ear, Ha! Seriously, no phone in my hand w/o that feature!
Mike @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
Anyone know where more infomation can be found, and if anyone is selling this to US customers? I wouldn't mind having something this size, even if it is ugly, because it would fit just about anywhere.
taehoon @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
#24...it has bluetooth...you wouldn't need to hold it up to your ear all of the time.
AFD @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
"any word if or when is this one coming to Europe?"
By the end of this year.
"Anyone know where more infomation can be found, and if anyone is selling this to US customers?"
Samsung's newest press release lists it as GSM 900/1800/1900MHz (no 850MHz) - so probably no release for us stateside.
cirdec @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
This phone is suppose to use with a BT headset. It is a phone that went missing in your pocket, or in a ladies' bag.
Wat is the price ??? i cant wait for it !
JackBoi @ Dec 19th 2005 2:06AM
This is an awesome phone and cant wait to get one, i read that the release date is for the end of 2005 in Europe cant find much info on an offical date or price. Love the retro look and much better then buying a sideways NEC N900 or N923. Will buy this phone if its not a small fortune. wow so cool!
